I agree with Trout. We have fought for GENERATIONS for what we have. Some for the first time are finally getting a shot to go above poverty or finally reap the benefits of their labors. To then turn around and change the rules? I do not live a life of wealth at all. I live within my means. We aren't a 3rd world nation so it's unfair to compare us to a 3rd world nation. I wouldn't have ever gotten a computer if my kids didn't need it for school and there were too many users at the library to be able to complete their work. If they make that a necessity to get by..they raised the standards to get by...not me. There's places here where the only way you can apply for a job is on the computer. They don't have written applications. There isn't even a common application where you can use for various jobs. Everyone has their own special one.
I wouldn't have a car if there was consistant public transportation that met with business hours and shifts without sitting at a bus stop for hours. They don't run on real life scheduals here and unfortunatly we have more obligations to meet than spending the day waiting for a ride and waiting to go home.
I probably wouldn't have a phone if I didn't need it for hours to sit and wait for assistance if they just had a local office where I could go and ask in person.
My life, if left to me, would be very uncomplicated and simple. They are the ones who made it complicated where more and more is demanded to get by. I don't want cable. But I have to have to have it here in order to get reception. Why? Coz they made it so I'd HAVE to. All or nothing.
I wouldn't have a cell phone if they still had phone booths. My husband wouldn't have one, on his dime, if his job didn't require it. Even then.it's pre-pay basic stuff. I don't want it...I don't NEED it....they basicly say if you want to get by...you need it or your left in the dark. By the time I finally cave in and get it..it's been up-dated and even more expensive. Society is saying more, more, more, and making it either illegal or hard to survive without it.
I mean how long did it take for a newspaper or even TV to tell you what pet foods were on the recall list? If you want the list..go to www. whatever .com.
They set the standards and expect us to keep up. Problem is.people are having trouble doing that. We are just needing to "survive" as well and those basics are getting more and more expensive. My electric has doubled since last year. I know people in Africa don't have electric. But they don't have their children stripped from them because they don't provide "basic" necessities like we are required to do. They aren't charged with neglect and abuse for not meeting those standards. We are. I'm glad our government has basic humane standards. Problem is..their greed is making it impossible to meet those basic things by allowing businesses to get away with not paying fair wages.
You can't compare us to 3rd world nations when we aren't one and you can't expect us to survive on 3rd world pay in a 1st world society. I can just see HRS and jail time if I were to give my kids a handful of rice for a week of pay. So it's impossible to compete in a global economy when we're comparing apples and oranges. And people aren't going to go down happy when they work 2wice as hard and just sink lower and lower in a 1st world country while a handful have more money than they could throw away.
One of theproblems is that the immigrants have no idea of what is "normal" in the adopted nation -
Big corperate interests cease upon this to cause an imbalance
It is about standard of living - If you came from a poor nation and an oppressive police and government - The exploitation of corperations in North America must still look pretty good to you
So the immigrant is used as a wedge to drive wages down - This is not thier fault as such They don't know any better
It is used to destroy what you grandparents fought for - That is the purposeful actions of the wealthy busness owner looking to squeeze you and everyone else - at any cost - They have no reguard for the past hero's or human rights and look at third world nations with lust in thier eye's
So who's fault is it ?
