I think you're putting two and two together and coming up with five. So on the assumption lots of countries had scored the our (the UK's) cheesey entry highly that would indicate happy and rosey European unity? I don't think so.

1- its not eastern European countries fault that they had 50 years of communism
2- I hear nobody telling how their developpment offers opportunities for our companies and businesses. Maybe this is to consider
3- They cost 50€ per year per EU taxpayer which is really not a lot compared to all what has been accomplished
4- If you think about Poland, they need time to grow up and come out of their right-extreme catholic twin brother government. They are still in the "everybody scares us" scheme.
5- People thinking of the EU as a corrupt organization have no knowledge of it and should first clean on their front door.
The EU has spread good practices, transparency and so on to countries where the situation was really bad.

I think that democracy takes a while to sink in. It is hard to get dictatorship out of the blood of a nation and takes time. Voting for their neighbour is i think a reflection of that.
I have rarely seen such crap as the Eurovison song contest,
all pub singers in the UK are better, all that mad cheering and flag waving such crap songs, pathetic is not a strong enough word
