Answer:
It is important what Native nations believe. Native people are the founders of this nation. This is their homeland and they need to have a say in how it is governed. And it is definately not propoganda. It is true that Natives (for the most part) support immigrants. Why? Because most of the immigrants that are being targeted are the cousins of current Native people. Just because there are borders that mean something to the government doesn't mean that those borders divide Native people. We should respect the opinons of Native people of this nation. And regardless of the ethnic group, if a whole group of people come together to support a cause then it should be heard.
I am a Native woman. I show solidarity with immigrants (yes, even illegal immigrants)!
As the daughter of a Native American....when did anyone ever ask for the opinion of my relatives. Unfortunately this is a mute question. However, I appreciate the fact that you ask it. Always nice to hear someone that cares. Our current government certainly does not care what anyone thinks that is not rich or can help put money in their pockets. We are losing good, young men and women on a daily basis because of the President that Americans put into office. Native Americans know how to take care of their own and could and would have if there was not so much interference from the government. We need to take care of our own land before we care for other lands. To hell with the oil.....isn't that really what the fighting is really over.
not THAT important. most of the ones that are left hate everybody.
and people don't think it matters
Khalid Al-Midhar and Hani Hanjour, the al-Qaeda hijackers who crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon, obtained the paperwork needed for their Virginia driver's licenses by paying $100 to an illegal immigrant in a convenience store parking lot.
not. they have their reservations and can control those borders. Natives who live as the rest of us red white and blues can have the same say as the rest of us but not more.
It's just as important as any opinion on immigration. Not to many people worry about legal immigration. It's the Illegal Immigration that is the real issue.
This is propoganda. The majority of "Native Americans" at the border feel invaded as evidenced by post after post BY THEM. You don't speak for them. You speak for Mexican border crossers. As to the small minority of border crossers who are native Mexican indians, BS! The border didn't cross them. It's been there for 150 years or so. The only things that can be asserted and addressed are things that happen in our life time. You can't go back and use things that happened a hundred or more years ago, or in your parents time or whatever to talk about things happening today. That border was there when they were born in whatever village they were born in. Their village is their home town. Their ethnic problems occured within the country of Mexico (etc), not in America. Coming here and venting at Americans and making us your scapegoat is wrong. You aren't helping your people. You are only hurting my people. You can't name one single thing we ever did to you to deserve your hatred and scapegoating. If you feel a border agent entered your house disrespectfully, file a complaint with them. Many people have complaints about authorities, not just you.
If I am correct native Americans are either American citizens or their not.So does your question suggest native Americans are now not actual Americans ?
it is of no importance whatsoever.
Their opinions are just as important to me (no more and no less) as the opinions of any citizens. I do not want their rights to be violated. But why is there no mention of the harm being done to Native Americans by illegals? Of their land being invaded and trashed by illegals with weapons? There are many Native Americans on this site who seem to feel as I do. They know that the hispanic illegals do not originate from from here, but south of our border. Too bad they haven't seen or responded to this question yet.
I am a citizen of European and Native American (Cherokee) descent.
The Native American's opinion is the same as the rest of us. They are no better or worse than the rest. Everybody should be equal.
American citizens all have a vote, including Native Americans. Their votes count.
Their opinion is split, however.
It has nothing to do with the indians. Indians live on their own land not on American soil. It would only apply if the illegal immagrants were going to live on Indian land.
So my answer is it isnt important at all.
They're Americans so yes their opinion matters. But I personally know quite a few American Indians who do not want open borders and want our laws enforced and do not want amnesty given.
They are just as divided on this issue as every group is. All blacks don't support amnesty, all hispanics don't support it either......there is not a 100% group of any particular group that is totally for or against it. As much as it wrankles the feathers of the anti-whites there are even whites who want amnesty. This idea of pitting one group against another is getting old. People have differing opinions and race or nationality have nothing to do with it.
Just as important as anyone elses......I don't color code!
ANTI-IMMIGRANTS?
Why do you stubbornly insult the immigrants by lumping them in together with illegal aliens! If any thing it should be the IMMIGRANTS opinion who should be important on the issue, since they have followed immigration laws, and have paid thousands of dollars to move over here, and have taken the steps to assimilate into American society. If I were an immigrant I would be very angry at illegal aliens!
As a Native American I DO support IMMIGRANTS. As a matter of fact, no American Indian of any tribe, speaks for me, nor can they tell me to sit back and let illegal aliens swarm over my property leaving destruction in their wake.
I have been speaking out against illegal aliens for 20 years, and guess what? People have been paying attention to me and have bent over backwards to help. As long as we have a dunce for a President who caters to Mexico, and encourages them to send their illegal aliens over to work, the problem will never end. Immigrants are not my problem, illegal aliens are.
Here is the definition of an Illegal Alien for those who are confused as to what they are when they have to dodge border patrol, or obtain false identification in order to enter this country:
Illegal Alien:
Non-citizen who has not been given permission by immigration authorities to reside in the country in which he is living.
Though I am not familiar with Indian national issues...I will
say that I believe the individual rights and opinions of Native-Americans should be exactly equal to that of any
other American..PERIOD.
as important as everyone else's is, but no more so.
No more or less important than that of any other LEGAL resident.
You did not make it clear, are we talking about illegal Immigration
or legal immigration ?
I am native american...and I have no problem with immigration.. And why would Native Americans opinion really matter.. it never has been any concern of the government what we say or object. It always goes the way of the non native.. All we have is what we have been taught,.. thats to accept people (immigrates), love others, respect the government, and keep to ourselves.. Dont get into other races problems.. as for the immigration of the mexicans, i dont approve but I see why they are doing it. Our land was taken from us (native americans) and now its being taken away from americans....... like they say 'what goes around comes around"... i know alot of people are gonna hate what i say..but its the truth..... the way i see it..
yes they have a right to commit on legal immigration. all legal Americans have a right to say no to illegals. the Native Americans i know don't want illegals here. Mexicans from mexico do not have American native blood in them.
Any American Indian can vote. I am not understanding quite what you are asking. If it is that most discredit their input on immigration; then some American Indians are for immigration and some are against illegal immigration.
The Tohono O'Odham Tribe is not for it. But you should included those Tribes that said they did not want the wall built.
But I don't see any validity to the claims when people state "I am Native American" so my vote counts more. We are all American and thus all our votes count just the same regardless of heritage.
The opinion of previous Americans (all people in the world are immigrants, none are natives) probably have the same opinion as most Americans toward immigration, which probably are:
- don't make trouble for me
- don't be caught in my lawn without my permission if you still want to be alive
- if you make too much trouble, I will personally drive you out of town
That's it, whether someone is legal or not, they probably don't care.
I find you amusing.
You need to study some political science, and
American History before attempting to thort a question that is spawn
from ignorance.
The importance of my opinion on immigration is irrelevant. The importance of my opinion to my legislators and representatives is important.
I care not for the opinions of others, I form my own opinions.
Which part of ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION do you not understand?
"Many people don't know that there are over 20 tribes that live in the border area who are suffering the consequences of the immigration crackdown."
I know of the tribes being affected by the criminal invasion of the masses of foreign nationals onto sovereign American lands, I have friends and relatives living along the borders.
"Federal agents violate tribal land without any regard to the rule of law set by treaties. When on tribal lands, agents invade homes at gunpoint, and demand papers." This is a treaty issue, The tribes affected by this need to have this addressed by their respective governments, Per treaty obligations and agreements. A nation is only as strong as its leaders, if the leaders wont stand up for the people, they need to be voted out at the next tribal elections.
SO, Whats your point?
It's very important, because they have been marginalized in their own lands... just like the Mexicans!
The Border Summit of the Americas was sponsored by delete theBorder.org. This is a pro Amnesty, Pro illegal immigration anti American group. How can you expect anyone to take this garbage seriously? Really? And to try to give this group legitimacy you the try to pass off the opinions of Native Americans (the few that showed up) as the opinion of an entire race? What a joke.
I don't think anti-immigrants care. Why? Because they are already living the life the illegals are trying to make. At least most. Also, technically, aren't Mexicans the natives as well? Their opinion should count too, seeing as how the land was stolen. I won't get into that though, the past is the past. That doesn't change them from being the natives though. The opinion of Native Americans should be important too, in fact the most important opinions. It is their homeland.
"We didn't cross the borders, the borders crossed us" is very real.
Once again, great links.
