Applied for a j1 visa, got a b1/b2 visa?
I'm working on a summer camp in the US this summer which i have done a few times previously (i'm from uk). I applied for a J1visa as i have always had before but they sent my passport back with a b1/b2 visa instead. can anyone tell me why this is and if it will cause me problems at the camp i'm going to be working for
i'm still in the uk but flight is booked for tuesday. the american embassy in london is impossible to get through to by phone. every line is a recorded message

This is most likely an error by USCIS.
You should have no problem getting into the US since your visa is valid. Also B1 visa allows certain business activities, which may be enough for your summer camp depending what your job will be and whether you will get paid, by whom, etc. So I'd recommend reading a little more on the restrictions of B1 (not B2 which is for tourists only) and see if you can manage to complete the camp.
If you have any doubt, your might want to postpone your trip while getting the visa converted to J1.

You better not get on the plane without resolving this first.
They have emergency appts. available...show up and explain your situation and get it resolved. Otherwise on B visa, you won't be able to engage in activities authorized for J visa.
