So, if poor people in Mexico and the Us don't compare (according to some), is it the same for the rich too?
Sounds stupid? Well, that's what people are saying about the poor from Mexico (that it's a different type of poor).
Answer:
No... poor is poor, rich is rich (or some degree of it). Anyone who can't afford food or housing, that have no heat in the winter, no clean running water is poor. I don't care where it is. And there are poor everywhere (all countries).
The thing about Mexico, is that there is no "middle income bracket" there, in Mexico, you are either making it or not.
No, if you're mexican ur automatically po
True. We have poor here but since we live in an obviously glutonously flamboyantly rich country our poor are assumed to simply be degenerate failures. Sucks either way dude.
maybe you ought to take a trip down south of the border and see what poverty is like. see what starvation is like. there are kids who have lived their whole life at the dump outside mexico city.
would you say the poor in somalia are comparable to the poor in america? this country is one of the best countries in the world to be poor in. we have a welfare system, food stamps, free medical care, free schooling.
ADD Terry, it's been years since i was last in your neighborhood, so not knowing what you see i can't comment and i agree that there are places in america that are extremely poor. however i must stand by my assertion that there can indeed be differing levels of poverty.
actually, America subsidize poverty, so the poor aren't as poor as they are in Mexico, the wealthy in Mexico are some of the wealthiest in the world. in fact, there's a Mexican Magnate ready to supplant Bill Gates on the Forbes list
Ok the wealthy in Mexico make up less than 1%, they are the ruling elite, behind the scenes of course, remember its a class system..Mexico has NO middle class..You honestly can't compare the rich in Mexico to the rich in US.There are varying degrees of richness here, where as over there, their are only the rich and only the poor...The rich are VERY rich and their is varying degrees of poor. And a very small middle class.I am not really sure what you are asking, your question is alittle convoluted...
Ok Terry, its clear we both see the same things very differently.I agree Mexico is a very wealthy country, in terms of natural resources, but that doesn't mean this wealth reaches the majority of its peoples...It is all sucked up the govt. and its elite families. So rich yes, but only for a few...
Obviously, it is a different level of poverty in third world countries to that of a world power. You wont see large number of working people, with no shoes, unpaved roads, and electric shortages in the U.S. Those considered wealthy in third world countries are those that have a lot more than the lower class. In reality there is no middle class in these countries, you are either rich or poor. Most of the time, these "wealthy people" fall into the middle class in the U.S. Not that there arent truely wealthy people in worldwide comparison, but it's a minority.
One more thing, if you are poor in the U.S. you can actually work yourself out of that poverty. It is definetely tougher to do it in a country with no financial stability.
Nice question.
in response: actually Venezuela and Brazil are the richest latin american countries. Also it is spelled COLOMBIA not columbia. Just because you own a store in mexico, doesnt mean you are middle class. Many people run these "stores" out of their own houses. They might have a little more than another person but they are not "middle class." They are poorer when compared to a "poor person" making $10,000 a year here in the U.S.
Wrong. They only have homes like those on cribs, country clubs, etc. Being that you are from Texas ever heard of McAllen,Texas. And surrounding border cities? Better yet go to any Airport and check out the airlines travelling to and from Mexico. You won't believe what you'll witness! And those are just the ones that are shopping. A bunch have real estate in the US that they come to check up on monthly...
In Mexico you find a very wide spectrum that ranges from the poorest of poor to the richest of rich. The poorest people there may go days without eating, and begging in the entrance of a Catholic church. Then there is the other extreme: Carlos Slim. He recently became the second richest man in the world, and is predicted to surpass Bill Gates quite soon.
The problem in Mexico is that the minimum wage is a joke paying about $6 a day. Who can live off of that? The Mexican government does not offer aid to the people. They offer a lot of help to corporations, business and tourism. But not the people. In a lot of rule areas there is no water pipes so people are forced to purchase water. It's sad to see. When people protest to gov. no one listens. In a few instances the people end up getting killed. Too much corruption. You should know you live in the boarder. The mafia is there killing people all the time. I'm sure they have ties to the government both Mexican and US.
Don't worry if enough Mexicans keep getting lured here by rich guys who don't want to pay a fair wage, our poor will be just as poor as the Mexican poor.
It does sound stupid.Have you ever been to Latin America ? The oligarchy is the same all over the world. The poor in Mexico are most likely indigenous, they are probably illiterate, they probably have no plumbing in their house, they probably have to get by on working odd jobs. The poor in the USA are millionaires compared to this.
Buenas noches, this is my "Spanish language supremacy" kicking in.lol
in all seriousness..the Mexicans need to load up some fire arms, form militias and take back their land from their corrupt government. Sure, it'll be costly in the life front.but revolutions always are. When your government stops listening to you...you find ways to make them listen! Thats why we here in the U.S. have a second ammendment.
I think to compare richness you would have to convert assets to the same monetary unit for a numerical comparison.
But you could also weight it by region, taking into account if it is a developed or undeveloped country. I think "rich" is skewed by region.
If you are rich in a place where goods and services are very cheap versus in a place where the cost of living is formidable, it could certainly skew the appearance of "richness".
