The Evolution of Math, can anyone relate to this?
Last week I purchased a burger and fries at McDonalds for $3.58.
The counter girl took my $4.00 and I pulled 8 cents from my pocket and gave it to her. She stood there, holding the nickel and 3 pennies. While looking at the screen on her register, I sensed her discomfort and tried to tell her to just give me two quarters, but she hailed the manager for help. While he tried to explain the transaction to her, she stood there and cried. Why do I tell you this?
Because of the Evolution of Math. Read on.
Answer:
LOL.
Kinda like ordering a half dozen chicken nuggets and being informed "I'm sorry, sir--they only come in packs of 6 and 12".
Yes globalization creates the future Mcdonald universtisty leaders of a new world order.
Why didn't you just let her give you two pennies? Good job making people's lives miserable!!
I think your story has more to do with the lack of selective breeding in humans. Stupid people spit out kids left and right, while intelligent people tend to breed less. Plus the educational system is just a reflection of Taylorism to get our kids ready for a menial 9 to 5 job, it has very little to do with learning.
Yes, it drives me crazy when I am owed $.40 back and the cashier obviously did not pass the second grade and gives me back 4 dimes.
I LOVE doing that!!!
Sometimes I do it just to watch them squirm...
My bill will be like 15.25 and I will give them a $20 a $5 and a quarter.it's too funny.
EDIT TO ADD---
(for those that didn't "get it".I wanted a $10 back)
loL! I like that story! poor girl, not the quick math thinker is she.!
I've worked at a kiosk for the last 4 years, and give and take moeny all the time through my Cash guard machine, which calculates the change for the customer and send it out to me to give him. But Its always bin fun to "think" faster than the machine and calulate the change ebfroe the machine does, and to calculate wha tthe customer should give me to get change in more rounded numbers. its gotten better and better over the years!
I can totally relate to you, when I make purchases I figure out what my change is before the cashier can look at the register and see what my change is. I'm like OMG go back to school and count change correctly. I'm even awed when I see old timers (50-70 year old) giving change back by what the register is saying. I hate it when My bill is say$ 13.56 and the cashiers says "Here's 6 bucks and some change". I want real customer service and my change counted back to me like they did 30-40 years ago.
why didnt u just let her give u 2 pennies back? why u gotta make everythin so difficult n confusing?
if i was her, i would of just gave u the 2 pennies n tell u to shove them up ur *** if u dont want them.
It's sad to see people who can't add or subtract.
Yeah that has happened to me a few times where you give a little extra so you can get a solid ten back, or so you don't get so much loose change back. They've just sat there and looked stupid.
Really sad, huh? I can do math in my head (it's actually what I do for a living... I'm in a branch of construction, therefore, I use math all day).
The math that you're talking about, though, I learned in elementary school.
It's really pathetic, nowadays.
Not everyone is good at math, or logic, or any number of things I could mention. Yes, it was simple problem, but some people can't handle it. My niece is a university graduate with a math disability, and she wouldn't have been able to do that. Doesn't mean she's not smart, or that she didn't get a good education. On the other hand, there are many people who, to be blunt, aren't that smart. But the world needs people to fill positions at every level. There's no shame in doing real work (There's not much money in it, either). Not everyone can be a lawyer or doctor or teacher. And it has always been this way, so there's no point in blaming the schools. Besides, depending on where you go to school, public education today is a lot more advanced than what it used to be. I know that I wasn't doing what my daughter is back when I was in first grade.
And maybe it would've helped if you had given her the eight cents with the $4 so she could have entered it all at once. Or were you trying to prove a point.
Sounds like No Child Left-Behind
the dumbing down of americans through 'progressive' education is just one of the prongs of the attack on america and its people begun during the cold war with the soviet union. the commies began to be driven underground during the mcarthy hearings in the 50's and infiltrated government and politics, the mainstream media, hollywood, and of course, education. as a result, we now have politicians who are actively pursuing the downfall of this great country by undermining the government and it's policies (think democrats), newspapers, television, and radio that are now obvious mouthpieces for anti-americanism (think n.y. times, tokyorosie, and air america), actors, producers, and directors who make anti-american, anti-republican, and anti-capitalist films and documentaries (think micheal moore, george clooney, steven spielberg), and lastly, workers who cannot figure out simple transactions even with a computer...not good at all...
