Why do Hispanics think that America's "anti-immigrant," when 53% (18 mil) of all new immigrants are Hispanic?
For those who don't look at links:
Coming to America
53%
Percentage of the foreign-born population from Latin America. This amounts to 18.3 million people.
10 million
The number of foreign-born people who were born in Mexico, by far more than any other Latin American country or any other country in the world for that matter. Other countries of birth that contribute large numbers of Hispanics are El Salvador (937,000), Cuba (925,000), the Dominican Republic (688,000), Guatemala (590,000) and Colombia (500,000). (The difference between the estimates for El Salvador and Cuba is not statistically significant.)
Answer:
I don't think they all feel that America's anti immigrant, I think that generally if one person that acts negatively towards them ruins their perception towards America as a whole and assume all Americans are Anti immigration. I have lots of Hispanic friends / family that are from other countries and don't feel that way. I think that the few Americans that are extremely anti-immigration are the reason some hispanics might feel like they are unwelcome.
What happened to getting the best and brightest? Know why actually import people who will be government dependant. Bankruptcy, here we come.
If they are anti-America, and I don't know that that's the case, I don't understand why they don't stay in their own countries and try to fix them. Will some of them die in the process? I'm sure they will, but how do they expect the lives of their families and friends to improve if they aren't willing to fight for those improvements as Americans did 200+ years ago?
Because they don't know what legal and illegal means.
That is not enough people
I think they need to make the questions harder on the test.
Because it is.History itself will tell you. Each and every immigrant group who came to the USA has been discriminated against some way or another.I grew up in a multicultural neighborhood in the 70's(BTW: all of them were legal ) and I used to see the discrimination(against them) first hand.Hispanics outnumber other immigrant groups because there are over 50 different Latin American countries. And I really could care less if anyone likes it or not.
Since you are often asking questions about Hispanics on this site, maybe you should make some Hispanic friends and ask them in person? You should get some good answers from "the horses mouth".
They confuse "anti-illegal" with "anti-immigration." I'm all for immigration as long as those who come here respect the laws of our land - learn and speak english, have an education or something that you can offer us
It's not immigration, per se, it's the number here illegally who get our support with tax dollars from the working public who pay taxes for the privilege of being in the US. These people come here and work for pay, but pay no taxes, and rob our working class citizens who are paying (or have paid into the system until they retired) by taking benefits they have not earned and do not deserve. Fix that problem somehow and it may go away.
Have you been reading some of these questions and answers? I would say that not only are many Americans anti immigrant but so are many in the UK.
I realize that many do not subscribe to this belief but the media and popular news programs play it up.
Many are not for legal immigration either as you said yourself it needs to be better controlled. I think there is alot of racism in these opinions and I think the immigrants know it. It's ok to let a few in but when "they" start "taking over" it gets pretty obvious.
Texas ya,
u kno. i love it when u confront ppl with facts that prove them wrong & they have absolutely no answer for ur ?.
facts back a strong argument. thank u for facts. its about time somebody on here actually did a little research before opening their mouths.
Margherita, are you INSANE? The media doesn't play up this crap. I live in TEXAS, and the southern part of Texas is like Nuevo Laredo. There are more illegal Mexicans here than you can IMAGINE, and even better: There are shops where they can acquire "identification" on every other street corner here.
The media ain't playing up what I see here with my own eyes. If anything, they're playing it DOWN.
what makes you think that only Hispanics think that America has anti-immigrant legislation? Have you talked to immigrants from other ethnic groups to get their opinions?
