I would craft a compromise bill with two main points:
1) Increased enforcement. Higher fines against the employers of illegals. Zero tollerance of illegals - any illegal found is deported, illegals get no public services.
2) Increased legal immigration. Both with the intent of residency and citizenship, and as temporary workers.
The two would be linked: As enforcement succeeds in reducing the number of illegals, more immigrants would be allowed in legally.

First of all, I would take the time to use correct grammar.
Forget about the thesis statement and main points. I need to learn grammar first before it will be taken seriously. We have that in common. By the way, are you among the illegal immigrants that you refer to?
The first thing I would do is to remove all emotive arguments and deal with the situation on a purely pragmatic basis.
To achieve this I would identify the criteria under which definitions of 'legal' and 'illegal' immigration is understood.
This is neccessarily simplistic...but applicants turning up at ports who cannot meet the criteria for lawful entry would be sent back to their port of embarkation. Those who met the criteria, would be admitted and entered into a programme of nationality adoption.
In the matter of currently domiciled individuals who do not meet the criteria...I would grant a limited amnesty to those who have no criminal record in any country, are able to demonstrate a set level of participation in and understanding of British society, and are willing to disclose the route through which they entered the country in an open and honest fashion.

Take the current list that Social Security has of 9.5 million people using fake or stolen SSN's, Send a letter to their employers stating that if the employee doesn't get it corrected within one month, they must be fired. Keep doing this every time Social Security has a problem SSN. Most of them will leave. Problem solved.
I may come back to this but since the Senate is refusing to hear any amendments except the 'clay pigeon' amendment they crafted in a backroom and even then have pre selected which parts of the 'clay pigeon' will pass, I hardly think they are interested in hearing our ideas.
