I don't think all illegal immigrants are criminals, so don't give me that. I DO think that one problem with illegal immigration is that it brings with it an ELEMENT of people we would NEVER let in legally and brings across crime of a nature common in Mexico and uncommon here. One huge problem I have with the current proposal is that it would legalize people who have two misdemeanors or two DUIs or a regular old felony (not an aggravated felony.) And gang members will be legalized on day two along with all of those people if they just say they will quit gangs. And those are convictions, people, and we all know how convictions tend to be plea bargained down.

DAR. The story about the kidnapping states that the victims were kidnapped by "Hispanic" men. I am "Hispanic," but was born in this country. It doesn't mean they were immigrants.
Sure, some immigrants commit crimes. Immigrants, be they legal or illegal, are swiftly deported when they commit crimes (if the crime is one which makes a person deportable). Even "legal immigration" can bring in criminals. Every ethnic population, even "white" US citizens, has criminals.
Most Latin American countries are much more dangerous than the US. The fact of the matter is that most of the people who come here are FLEEING those dangerous conditions themselves. I have spoken with people who've told me they feel so safe here. It's so nice to be able to walk on the streets and not have to run looking over your shoulder, afraid you'll be assaulted EVERY TIME you walk out your door.
Laws are enforced here. Police tend to do their jobs in this country. The US isn't a good place for a criminal to come to because they have a much better chance of being put in jail in the US. Since you clearly are making an effort to be informed, you should read about what's going on in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador -- where the gangs are ruling the streets. Know where these gangs came from? They are people who were living in LA, learned the gangbanger lifestyle there, got deported and took what they learned in the US back with them and spread that gang culture there. The only thing is that in a place where the police barely enforce the laws, these gangs have really flourished. How many gang members make it very long without going to jail, DAR? If they are convicted of certain crimes, they WILL be deported even though they became a permanent resident.
What would our country be like if the 12 million or so here in the US WITHOUT PROPER AUTHORIZATION were criminals? Immigrants who are here illegally have to fly under the radar -- for the most part, they are not criminals.

DAR, there is an ELEMENT of truth to what you say. I don't disagree totally with you, just because I have met so many people and seen so many cases, my perspective is a little different. When I was new to immigration law, I was much more liberal and pretty much wanted to find a way to help everyone stay. Years of practice have changed me a lot. I interview numerous REAL criminals in immigration detention centers every week and many times I think to myself when they whine about how it is unfair -- I'd love to tell them that they had no right to do what they did and they have to pay the consequence.

I agree with you.I think that is ridiculous.We need to deport anyone with even one misdemeanor.They need to have a CLEAN record.There are many, many problems with this bill.

Amnesty is wrong. It will cost taxpayers BILLIONS of dollars to take care of people that should not even be here. I am really sick of this!
Enforce our laws. Jail the employers to dry up the job market. That will FORCE the illegal alien criminals to leave since there wouldn't be jobs.

Do you remember that there used to be advisory warning to tourists about traveling through Florida in rentals cars? Can we get rid of those criminals as well? A lot of stuff happening in this country pisses me off and very little of it is perpetuated by illegal immigrants.
I agree and if something doesn't change,we wont have a country. Watching the daily news here makes me angry because there is always a story of someone hurt by an illegal.
