1) they would never "tighten the border" with the passage of this bill. They still haven't done anything about border security for the 1986 bill. And what about the fence bill that was signed last year. Where's the fence?
2) the illegals don't want to assimilate. they just want to be taken care of and not pay for anything.
3) illegal immigration won't continue to be unabated if we just ENFORCED OUR CURRENT LAWS. If we jailed the employers, the 20+ illegal alien criminals, that are here breaking our laws, would leave.
4) the bill was flawed in the fact that it covered not only the 20+ million that are here now but it also included the millions that would lie and say they met the deadline AND the millions of family members that would be included AND the million that would be part of the NEXT round of illegal alien criminals!
5) the illegal don't have to pay the fines unless they chose to apply for citizenship. Most would probably continue as they are, not paying the fines and just being here getting money.
6) gang members would be able to amnesty by signing a paper to renounce their membership - like they would really mean that! Drug dealers, pedophiles, and other criminals could get amnesty. Background checks would be a joke!
Bottom line, HOORAY FOR SANITY AND THE FACT THAT WE MADE A DIFFERENCE BY SCREAMING AT CONGRESS! The Senate was forced to do the right thing!
Sure, another bill will probably come up. Hopefully it won't be a pile of crap like this one!
I think we should focus on enforcement of our current laws, and create a better way of investigating and enforcing employment rules as well as housing, and let illegal aliens worry about their own deportation, .THEN if we need additional laborers we can bring in Legitimate applicants from all countries to a path to citizenship!
Our leaders have the responsibility to enforce our laws. The majority didn't like this bill. It shouldn't be a threat that if we didn't like this bill, they'll just abandon the issue and continue to allow people to break our laws. They need to continue to work on it.
we did not make a mistake. there is more then 12 million illegals here. the last few times amnesty was passed more showed up for it then they anticipated. i say good they did not pass it. and we will continue to say no. call your self what you want.

There's no magical bill that will fix immigration problem. Much of it has to do with economic imbalance between the US, Mexico. That's why you don't see bunch of white Canadians jump fence. I think they're trying to do too much with this just one bill and I think it shows. I don't expect them to fix it over night and they shouldn't try to.
I would have just started with simple bill stating harsher penalty for illegal immigration. It's impossible to catch all of them, but there are ways to reduce number of illegal migrant workers. I don't see why not they just try to pass measure by measure. Instead these nuts are trying to cramp in bunch of craps, rewrite entire immigration law over night.
No wonder this thing stalled. Everybody in Congress is trying to be freakin hero so they can tell folks back home 'ma I did it!'
Do you honestly believe a bill will stop the illegals from crossing our border--The answer is NO. We need to tighten the security along our border, period. Those who seek in will not wait for a green card-too many of them are criminals, these bad guys are raising havoc on our system.
Lets hope the next bill that comes up will be to deport illegals, and tighten security and build a fence! I would rather spend my taxes on that then the trillions we spend on illegal immagrints...your priorities are mixed up bud...illegal aliens are a drain on american society. The sooner we get em out the sooner we all wil do a little better than yesterday...
Who says it's dead? You?? No it's just off the table for now, and will go through proper channels to get a reform bill that will still address those issues and others. When one group of politicians block others from making amendments that goes against the American principal of creating true fairness. Just because the Democrats have control in both houses - doesn't make it their own personal, and private club house to change rules to favor them. And don't get me wrong - because as an Independent voter I normally vote along Democratic lines. But not in this case or on this issue.
I want all the politicians to compromise on a bill that We The People have had a say in. Not lobbyists, not illegals, and certainly not businesses or employers who have continually broke the Federal Immigration Laws (by hiring illegals) who were looking for amnesty themselves for doing so. Meaning as soon as the illegals were granted legal status those businesses have gotten away again without being fined, jail time, homes/houses, businesses, and their vehicles taken away, In the mean time all of 1986 reform bill should be enforced. And the bill that Bush already signed for an 840 plus fence still is in effect, and not the cut back version of only 200 miles of fence. More border patrol can still be hired, and big brother cameras and such for that portion of home land security. The interactive criminal system where every state agency, Feds, ICE, Border patrol, and such can find information, and records on all criminals. rather than the messed up way they have it now. So we still have another chance or so to put together a real reform bill that puts a stop to all the BS from our politicians, businesses/employers who hire illegals, the illegals, and pro-amnesty/illegal supporters. And plug up all the loop-holes they had in that one that thankfully failed.
If people are to dumb to get it they have to live with it.No sympathy from me.The illegals ain't goin away now.Suck it up an quit crying about illegals.
