I've got the green card and have to go back to my home country?

Can someone assist me, what i have to do so that i won't loose the green card and how can i apply for the american passports afterward, i have lived here for 7 months , thanks?.

Answer:
As long as your green card is valid, it should be good for 10 years from the date of issue, unless you are a conditional resident, in which case your green card will expire in 2 years. To remain a legal resident, you will need to renew your green card with the USCIS before the expiration date.

You can travel out of the country and be readmitted by simply presenting your green card and your passport from your home country. However, if your trip requires you to be out of the US for more than 1 year (but less than 2 years), you need to apply for a reentry permit.

You may lose your permanent residence status if you move to another country and live there permanently, if you declare yourself as "nonimmigrant" in your tax forms or fail to file your US taxes for any period, if you commit illegal acts, or if you stay outside the US for more than 1 year without getting a reentry permit.

As for applying for US citizenship, you need to have 5 years of PHYSICAL presence here before you can be eligible for naturalization/citizenship. You will need to be clear from any criminal history, and you will be tested for english language and US history knowledge. Once you have been naturalized, you can be issued a US passport.

Call the INS. Don't rely on the people here to know.

International Travel
A Permanent Resident of the United States can travel freely outside of the US. A passport from the country of citizenship is normally all that is needed. To reenter the US a Permanent Resident normally needs to present the green card (Permanent Resident Card, Form I-551) for readmission. A reentry permit is needed for reentry for trips greater than one year but less than two years in duration.

I would also go to the link and read the paragraph about Maintaining Permanent Residence, because if you don't obtain the reentry permit and stay out of the us for more than a year you are at risk of losing your green card..
give it to me for safe keeping i will make sure no mexicas get it
Don't go back. Trust me.
Don't lose your status; it's golden.
