I don't think iraqis are too happy with the failure that iraq has become. Whatever you may think about the US, I think you should consider the people of Iraq who are actually doing most of the suffering. A failed state in Iraq may make theUS look bad, but that will be nothing compared to the cost to iraqis. One thing I do agree with you about though is that very few people here are actually able to step outside of their consumerist lifestyles to care about what happens to others. Most of the people here live in a fantasy world where who won american idol is the most important thing to them.

Obviously, you do not associate with Americans too often. We are a diverse group of individuals who share our various backgrounds, traditions, beliefs and religions. Every single one of us make America what it is today.
What you see in the media are half-truths. Actually 1/10-truths. I have been very upset with the liberal media. Not because they are liberal, but because they hide any truth that does not fit their spin for the day.
What you see and hear on tv, no matter whether you are in the USA or not, is only a small bit of the truth. Thus, it is dishonest and untruthful.

This is what is happening both here in the USA and in England and the rest of Europe. My cousin, in England, asked me one time if 9-11 really happened. I wondered how could such an intelligent man ask such a stupid question? Then I understood: the media and its half truths.
A little history lesson: America has been attacked for 30 years now by terrorists. No one did anything. Just words that terrorists laughed at. If you would like, I will send you the copy which states all the different attacks and where they happened.
It is ludicrous to even imagine that a terrorist would listen. True terrorists want to kill. This is the 3rd time in world history that overzealous Islam terrorists have attempted to conquer the world. Go back and look at your history books.the ancient ones up to now. I have seen Americans confess how the USA is responsible for the woes of the world, and it is our task to fix everything. Really? Since when? I, me, sitting here at my computer in the Midwest, USA, have done very little to affect even the woes of those closest to me, so how am I to have done all this damage? I didn't. Neither did my friends or neighbors or relatives. Most the time we find our own trouble.
As far as the border is concerned, it is just the "IN" problem to be talked about in politics in this country. Anything to dis the President and his cabinet. Next week it will be something else. We will get it figured out.

As for me, I am an American of Irish and German descent. I am proud to be here and proud of my country and those who unselfishly sacrifice to make it a better and safer place to live. What am I not proud of? The whiners, the do-nothings, the media and its half-truths that misleads many.
What is good about America?
The morning dawn. The dusks and sunsets. The beauty of the sky as a thunderstorm blows across the prairies. Little mountain villages white with snowfall. The sight of a zigzagging stream with its sporadic waterfalls and translucent water flourishing in the many hues of green of the countryside.
The wolves, mountain lions, coyote and deer which conceal themselves with the prolific trees and brush of the lush forests. The peace of the quiet in the middle of a cluster of late summer trees far from the highways.
My family, friends and neighbors. Those who volunteer to help others in homeless shelters. The dedicated people who dedicate their lives to helping others around them: the rural workers, religious, teachers, coaches, latch key leaders, Girl and Boy Scout leaders, Youth leaders and those who run youth programs, the YMCA and its generosity to everyone, those in the medical and dental field who donate their time and supplies to heal the poor and sick who cannot afford to pay.
The organizations that donate to the food pantries which provide many families with food. The walkers who have collected and contributed to the cause that they are walking for, e.g., cancer or arthritis. Entertainers who give of their time and money to help out a cause. Musicians who perform for free for those who cannot pay. Those who have gone back to their neighborhoods to help out the disadvantaged.
Those working to make the world cleaner, less wasteful, more independent from that which harms. Big businesses that give free medication to those who cannot pay and great amounts of money to worthy causes and charities.
The way a neighborhood, city, state or the country pulls together after a tragedy to help one another...like Katrina. Those who left their jobs and homes to spend time in New Orleans cleaning up and rebuilding for the victims of Katrina. Those from the 4 corners of the USA who willingly and with great welcome invited the victims of New Orleans into their homes and helped them get jobs and a place to live. I could go on and on ad infinitum, but you get the idea.
There are many good people here who wish only the best for everyone. Next time you see a news clip about the horrors that the US is inflicting in the Mideast, ask yourself who wrote or filmed that clip. What is their agenda? What are they benefiting from this story?
Then ask: where is the money? Follow the trail to the media-newspapers, tv and radio news. Then ask: why do they choose this story...could it be that it sells ??!! What would a newspaper be without its readers who PAY for the privilege to receive one? Where would the tv and radio stations be with no viewers or listeners? Could it be that the public is demanding this one-sided shenanigans??
Just think about it. Particularly be very careful of your sources. Do they stand to gain anything by airing this clip or writing this story? Are they fair and unbiased? Therein lies your answer.
