How do you explain to your kids about racism?

My daughter's best friend and her family got deported. I want to explain to her why they weren't allowed to stay in the country.

Answer:
Tell them the truth. They were deported because they are I L L E G A L.
that has nothing to do with racism
I don't, I treat all races the same so my kids don't have any idea what racism is.
Well, first of all, that doesn't require an explanation of racism, just of the law. Explain why her family came here, why they couldn't come here illegally, and that they knew they were taking a (slight) risk of being deported in doing so.

Then, if you're citizens, sponsor them to come back legally, or, if you're not, take up a collection to pay for the coyotes to bring them back.
Then you need to explain government and law, not racism.

If you want to discuss racism, then explain Jim Crowe, Gerry-Mandering, the civil war, Brown vs. the Board of Education, the civil rights movement, lynchings, etc. But, that has nothing to do with immigration.
start by explaining that the family is a bunch of criminals and broke the law coming to the US to sponge off of us ... that should explain it fast...
Racism is a natural, instinctive attitude of all peoples. Racial awareness is a healthy thing in all different races. Automatically when one uses the term "racist" most people think only of whites as being racists. However, all races are race conscious and exhibit racists tendencies against peoples of other colors. Tell your children to be proud of whatever race you are. Do not teach them a sense of guilt for being a proud, white, black, or yellow person. God made each of us according to His divine plan. Whatever you are, make the decision in your heart to be the best person you possibly can be.
Tell her they were breaking the law and breaking the law is illegal and illegal is bad and that is why they were sent home and that if they would go through the proper channels they may become a citizen and never have to worry about that problem again.

Also tell her that her friend being deported was not an example of racism but there are plenty of other examples to be found so I am sure you will not have a hard time finding another example.
Well you could tell her that they were breaking the law. People who break laws deserve to be punished. They don't deserve to live here and were sent back to where they belong. If they wanted to do things the legal way they would find the country opening its arms for them,. Until then they need to stay out of my country like ALL illegals Mexican or nonmexicans I don't care which
Also it's called nationalism not racism
Lmao. You never cease to amaze me. I got in trouble for laughing out loud about this. Hey check out my new 360 back ground

Hey give me best answer so I can get to level 2 quicker and ask and answer more questions.
I really don't know how to explain racism. It's like trying to explain murder, there is no real answer. Racism is learned, that's all I know.
Tell her that we live in a Capitalist society, and the rich are always looking for ways to squeeze working class people. Then tell her that her friend's family got deported because the rich in this country want to pass a guest-worker program that will help further exploit immigrant labor, and the ICE raids are a way for them to generate momentum around changing immigration laws. Then tell her that people are dehumanizing immigrants (mostly latinos) because it makes it easier to tear their families apart. People don't just come up with racist ideas on their own, rather racism is used to justify inhuman laws. These laws are the product of rich Capitalists who want to keep the workforce divided so as to make everyone, immigrant and naturalized alike, more malleable.
WHY in the WORLD would you even think that enforcement of the law can have ANYTHING to do with "racism"??

Would you take the same approach if someone were to rob you - but don't punish them for the country that they came from was really BAD and even tho it is breaking the law - we have to 'turn the other cheek'?

If not - why not? Or do you have double standards within your life that are totally dependent upon how it effects you personally?

A responsible approach is to tell them that there are laws that these people broke and that just like she gets punished when she does wrong things - they were too. Cause bottom line - that IS the reality.

Tell the child the truth - her friend and family were breaking the law. Because they made the choice to break the law, they were punished - as they knew that they could/would be. Tell her that they came into this country illegally and that such is not allowed and that people that do such are criminals and can and will be punished.

Frank Lloyd Wright (1868-1959)
How do you explain to your kids about illegal immigration? Easy. You just have to look at idiots like you.
Sounds like they must have broken some laws.

What does that have to do with racism ?
I guess you can say that there is a lot of bigotry from the "proud americans" just like there was during every immigration wave.
Have her watch the "Roots" series (in regards to racism)... then... show her your pay check stub, so that she can see how much money the government takes out in order to support illegal immigration. Let her know that Americans are sick & tired of being bled dry to help support the welfare, WIC & medical programs being depleted by illegals.
Hell, I'm white as paper but I would still get deported from America if I stayed there illegally after my visa expires and the government would find out. It's the law and it's regardless of color, it has to do with having papers or not having papers.
Tell her some people don't like other people because of their color. That's life. The sooner you tell them, the sooner they will get over it and not obsess like you do.
Perhaps your lesson should be centered around the facts like they broke the law..
You are the one inferring racism..Getting deported is about a legal action, NOT the color of your skin.
You may also explain to her when she asks if that could happen to your family that yes indeed , If you are law breaking illegals then you might also be following her friend.
Try telling your daughter the truth for a change. Drop the racist propoganda and simply tell her the truth. She deserves at least that much from her father.
It's easy to explain --- THEY WERE ILLEGAL!!!
You know it's NOT about racism, So don't even try to go that route!!
Here's an idea --- teach her about OBEYING LAWS!!
What does racism have to do with being deported? Are you asking how to make excuses for whatever was done (or not done) to cause them to be deported by playing the race card and trying to divert attention and blame from the real issue? Nobody gets deported because of race.I would suggest not lying to your daughter about it. I explain racism to my children the same way I explain how some people are prejudiced to persons with special needs (like their younger brother)...I also explain how people have to be accountable and responsible, also just like them and their brother.
To explain racism, I'd show them your past statements, that ought to do it.

If your daughters family is to stupid to understand that illegal entry is against the law. How can I explain that they are supposed to be deported?

If they don't know the difference between racism and breaking the law, I'm sure you can explain it to them.

Oops I'm sorry, you asked the original question, that means you don't know the difference either.

Sorry, try to deal another race card from the bottom of the deck, as that seems your incapable of rational thought processes.
Being deported for entering a country illegally is not racism.

That is how to explain it to her.
This isn't about racism. You need to explain your daughter that it's about regulations and laws and that sometimes those laws can be very unfair but that they are still enforced until people decide to change them.
tell her they are illegal. let her read your past post and and other illegal supporters posts, she will understand racism. i tell my kids people who call names referring to ones skin color is racist, small minded uneducated idiots.
Tough one there. Because, should we teach them how to discriminate on greedy selfish and thankless individuals, that feel superior to a specific class, culture? That have no idea as to what being hispanic truely consist of like being bi-lingual,bi-racial (though with reserved exceptions) for flock of fools who don't even give any thought to reality of futuristic chaos and who knows what else! Bet they who have no clue as to what disrespecting someone 'live' consist of are the first to hide their shame.

JUST ALLOW TIME TO DO ITS WONDERS..
If tehir in Mexico, take them on a trip. Show them pictures of who has money and who is rin charge of their country. Then send them to Souther part of Mexico and let them meet the Chiapas Indians and talk to the Zapatistas.
