I think you will find the idea is to send them a text when their visa runs out. Not that i think this will have any affect and of course they will have to have a mobile number and the immigration service will have to know that number. WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. I know I've got an effing great idea, why don't they send the messages by carrier pigeon. It's about as likely to make a difference. What idiot comes up with these ideas ?

I expect most of them will .if they have visas they`re legal and it would be a reminder like we get with bills . and most only need to have them renewed .no one said they were going to text the illegal ones did they

As other have pointed out, you have it the wrong way round.. the home office will send texts to the immigrants to tell them that their time is nearly up.
it is all about offering soundbites to the media and making it appear that this labour government is actually doing something positive.
