Yes, thank you to all the patriots and rational people, and thanks to all the reconquista and la raza types too for opening my eyes in a completely different way.
I confess that I once considered illegal immigration a necessary evil to provide farm workers. No longer. Every blue collar occupation in LA is now dominated by illegals, and they want licenses so they can take over trucking and delivery too. A permanent illiterate wage-slave class was a bad enough prospect, but when the nationalistic and racist true colors of the illegals became clear to see, it opened a lot of eyes, mine included.
Celebrating what... doesn't mean anything is settled. Just means it's off the desk, the topic for now but trust me there will be a reform and it will be better and get ready because the next President will be a Democrat... so get ready for the heat!

Yes! It is great news! Now we have a list of people we can count on and those we can't. It will definitely make the next election a lot easier!
I'm worried that it will be overturned somehow by the high powers in office that stopped our military from returning home. I'm still nervous about the final outcome and won't feel confident that anything is happening to better our border security until I see the fence built.
This was a great victory today for everyone who wanted to prevent amnesty to millions of illegals which would have been the ultimate reward for breaking the law.
imback_missme, I will continue to pray that our military is brought back to US soil to help clean up our own country.

im kicking back drinking a beer as i write this. I have talked to congress, wrote letters, joined groups, and talked about this issue non stop since last year or so. Im so glad the will of the people was heard today and hopefully this amnesty crap will stop. I am all for immigration reform, but do it legally. we need to secure our borders, take the incentive out of being here illegally by going after the compainies that hire undocumented workers, and then deport the illegals which are here. Start with the ones in prison, then just deport the illegals when they do something wrong.. this would be a great immigration reform. If this is done, then we can lesson the restrictions and time it takes to come here legally, and more people would do this!!

Now we need to write, call and fax our politicians and have them put in writing what we want to see on/in the next bill or proposal they plan on bringing up. Because they said they will bring it back up. We want them to do it our way this time.
Since Bush already signed into law the border fence of 840 plus miles, that still needs to happen now, (or rather continue to go up) and at a faster rate then they have done so far. Triple fence with an electronic sensor that when triggered locks them inside it.

Employers who hire illegals fined the $75,000 dollars per illegal, and jail time, homes taken away, businesses, and vehicles.
Still more border patrol, and big brother cameras, and our local agencies be able to ask of legal status, and proof when they stop them on minor infractions. If they're here undocumented, and illegally, fine them, jail time, and send them home. If they return still undocumented, and illegally make the punishment harder.

Guest/Holiday Workers program - but not permanent or no overstaying and not leaving the country.
No free social, health care or education and the like to illegals. No drivers licenses to illegals. IRS must report illegals who go in to pay taxes to immigration department.
No more free ride for illegals and businesses/employers who encourage them to come here, hire them, and then wanting amnesty for illegal workers and themselves.
Basically combine Australias, U.S., Canada, and Mexicos immigrations laws, rules, and guidelines. Enforce 1986 current laws for now.

My states politicians have just annouced that although they appreciate the illegals concerns on the immigration issue - they (my politicians) said they owe the American people better than what we have gotten in the past from them. So they will be working on doing that for Americans, and America.
Added: - Too bad Petey doesn't understand that Bush has already signed a bill into law that an 840 plus mile long fence WILL BE BUILT. Not the cut-back version in the bill of only a couple of hundred miles.

hard working illegals do not know that if they wait patiently for 2 more years they will get better amnesty plan. and they will be larger in number ( estimated 30 million instead of current 16 million ). all they need to do is support Lou Dobbs to kill any immigration reform bill this year.
All I have to say is vive USA! There should not be another attempt to do this. But they will. I am not being racist. I think of my great grand parents who came to the US from Lithuania, escaping the Russian Revolution. They had to stay on Ellis Island. They EARNED their citizenship. I have no problems immigrating by the rules, but for citizenship to be given to you? HELL NO!
