Hi I've been living in USA for 10 years, Is it possible to apply for citizenship with expired Green Card?

My green card expired 6 months ago. I am an Immigrant and I have been living here in US for 10 years. I want to apply for citizenship. Is it possible to apply for citizenship even if my Green Card is Expired?

Answer:
Renew your green card and pay the fee for so doing (the greatly increased fee, I believe, or is it July 1st before they put them up?) Once you have regularized your situation, go ahead and apply for citizenship. When you do, be prepared to be asked about this. However, as noted by someone else, immigration officers usually aren't out to make life difficult, so I do not see it as a major problem.

Those who claim you are a criminal clearly do not understand the finer points of US immigration law. I am not saying that is right or wrong, but those are the laws we have right now.
NOPE! You are now an illegal alien criminal because your are breaking our laws!
Your in luck. Yes you can. And your status is not expired. Just your card. You can go have your card renewed. The card expires every 10 years but that doesn't mean that you fall into illegal status!
I know this because I was sitting with an immigration attorney just yesterday with mi esposo. Soooo with that said I hope this helps!
And the the answer above our attorney said as long as you have the green card and you have been a holder for 2 years (if married to a citizen) you can apply for citizenship. If not you only have a green card for 5 years...
a good candidate for citizenship would have respected our regulations

dont let the door hit you.
The question should be ? Your green card was for 10 years ?? I never heard of that ? but I would go to immigration and usually they are real nice. I had a friend named Juan and his expired to and they just said "here you go nice illegal alien guy and make sure you tell the 10 other people that live in your house to come on down and will fix them up to " :-) Go Home and enter the right way like all the honest people that been waiting for 10 years for you to leave !
yes, your "green card" (permanent resident alien card) may have expired but that does not necessarily mean that your status has also expired. usually it does not. you may only need to go renew your status...while there inquire about naturalizing.
If this was a permanent resident card then you simply have to pay to renew it. If it was a non permanent resident card then you are illegal now and will have to leave and reapply.
Hey man, I'm sorry that you have to get hateful answers when you're asking a legitimate question. Then these idiots wonder why the rest of the world hates Americans. Don't judge us by a few ignorant people that are unfortunately legal here and we can't kick them out. I apologize on behalf of these bruts. Here is the answer to your question. You can apply for an extension for your residency at the same time applying for citizenship. Just because your card expired, it doesn't mean your illegal.good luck and welcome!
green card means permanent residency. the card is expired but you are still a Legal permanent resident of the US and of course you should apply for citizenship you should have done that 5 years ago.

good luck
not until u get your greencard squared away. Bye bye!
