Unfortunately, we Americans are more likely to send money to victims of spectacular tragedies that we see on TV than the everyday tragedies right under our nose. What's needed to fight homelessness is leadership, but it would take an unselfish person because there is little to be gained financially or politically. Under the current political structure, someone like that would never get voted into office.
One possibility is for a single or a few people to step in and make a difference, someone like Bill Gates or Warren Buffett. There are people like that who have all the money they need, but are looking for a way to make a difference. I can't think of many things more laudible than to put a roof over everyone's head.
To say people choose to be homeless is absurd. Let's see, how many people do you know chooses to live outside in freezing winters with newspaper for shelter, be treated like a pest, get sick, and die at 40? To say it's their fault, so let them be is cruel and ruthless. We are not animals. Even some animals are above that. The real reason for all the lack of compassion is greed, pure and simple. Don't bother sugar coating it.

you have to ask your self if they want to be helped. not all want the help. i did a report on homeless once and they said the reason they prefer to live on the streets is because of the govt. they have the money to live in homes, they are tired of giving their money to a govt who doesn't care. for the ones who want help, well we have to get rid of the illegals so they can get a job and take care of them self's.
I see many who do not want to live in a home,like the rest of us.
They have that right. However it angers me to see them asking for hand outs.

Homelessness is the homeless people's fault. Some are victims of mental diseases, but many are just too lazy to find a job.
Yes, deport all of the illegal aliens. After the people who have been bleeding our society dry with education costs, medical costs, crime, and identity theft have left, we will have plenty of resources to deal with homelessness, and fund Social Security as well. We may even have enough left over to send an American to Mars.
