Apllied for a j1 visa, got a b1/b2 visa?
Answer:
Where are you now? I was immigration officer for 20 years in the airport, if you arrived at airport, you need to prove that it was error by the consulate, the airport officers will admit you as J-1 and they wont you to corrected in any nearby immigration office, they charge a waiver(form I-193). if you travel back to your country then you have to go to consulate and change it. if you are already here in the U.S., take a letter from the training institute that you are attending and take along the SEVIC form to near immigration office to your resident and they will give documents to attend the training with out asking you to leave the country to corrected.
YOU NEED TO CALL OR E-MAIL THEN AND TELL THEM THEY MADE A MISTAKE ASAP SO NO PROBLEMS ARISE IN THE FUTURE.........
I would go to the U.S. embassy and ask them there. Make sure you talk to someone who doesn't answer their own phone.
