cleaner air, great beer, health care, and when you live there you visit America to see how special it is.
Well first of all many people attempt to escape oppression and discrimination and chose to immigrate to Canada, which is democratic and is one of the prime leaders of the world in guaranteeing rights and freedoms. Many people are killed in other countires for not wearing certain things or for being part of certain groups but none of that happens in Canada since we are a free country.
Next, Canada has a booming economy and many people want to invest or take part of the economy since it provides opportunity for many.
Most importantly is that Canada helps people out who are needy by having effective welfare programs, unemployments programs, and a whole bunch of social programs funded by the government. From free healthcare to subsidized education,Canada's socialistic approach makes it an attractive place for many people.
Finally, we are relatively safe compared to other countries and we have low crime rates.
Hope I helped and good luck with your project!
For the maple syrup.
Canada...
1)...is a peaceful nation with no enemies, good international relationships (including with Cuba), and is at minuscule risk for a terror attack.
2)...in many provinces, recognizes and fully accepts gay marriage as a legal institution, even for immigration purposes.
3)...has socialized medicine that Canadians report satisfaction with. No Canadian goes without health care.
4)...has no death penalty.
5)... has tough gun control laws, and, it just so happens, a murder rate about three times lower than that in U.S.
6)...has a general maternity leave of one year off for mothers, at 80 percent of their salary.
7)... has a more balanced education system, where schools in poor areas deliver the same quality of education as those in wealthy locales.
A few more facts, Canada is also: Culturally rich, diverse and multilingual; The per capita rate of college-educated residents is about 30 percent higher than the U.S. rate; The economy and standard of living are good; And, perhaps the clincher is that, overall, even the most conservative citizens disapprove of George W. Bush.
Need I say more?
Canda has just won it 24th World Hockey Championship.
It will host the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
It has the Toronto Raptors who won the Atlantic Division title, the only non-american team in the NBA.
It is one of the few countries who welcome diversity.
It is a very friendly country.
Canada is generally more welcoming of immigrants than the USA. It's an affluent country that is not seen as antagonizing the rest of the world. In short, pretty much everyone loves Canada.
Alberta has been enjoying great oil wealth lately, which will attract skilled professionals.
I believe it is still easier for people from Commonwealth countries to immigrate to Canada than the USA. These are countries like South Africa, India, Austrailia, etc.
EDIT: I keep seeing clowns post "gun control" as a pro-Canada argument.
Yes, Canada has gun control. Canada also has more guns per capita than the United States. Canadian crime is low because Canada has a less violent society over all, not because of anything that has to do with guns.
Heck, my neighbor in Canada had more guns than I've seen anyone in the USA having, and half the stuff he had I couldn't even buy in California.
I'm Canadian, and after reading this I realize all the things I take for granted...
Damn, thanks...
Oh, and the Hockey thing is sweet!! I'm drinking some good Canadian beer tonight.
jobs and free health care
For the same reasons that they do to other places: a better life, be with their family or even just experience a different culture.
if your talking about Americans immigrating from America is because they are sick of the illegals.
Icobes is correct on many of his points, except that there is no "free" health care here. Canadians pay quite a lot of tax and that tax money goes to the federal government to fund said health care system, among other things.
The reasons why people want to immigrate to Canada are as varied as there are people. Mostly, it's because we are a very peace loving society. We have very clean streets (overall), surprisingly little violence (compared to other nations). We are not heavily into jingoistic nationalism; we are not rabid flag-wavers because we don't need to be; we have top notch universities and, okay, I admit it, the best maple syrup this side of the asteroid belt!
