How long does immigration take before they make a decision.?
My question now is that, i have not heard anything from immigration yet, does it always take this long before you get a response back from them, i checked my receipt number on line and called INS but they said my case is still pending.
Is this a good sign or a bad sign, and what is the longest time frame immigration takes before they give you a reply.
Answer:
Wow,everyone else's experience has varied greatly from my husband's and mine. (maybe because we filed before his H2B visa expired?)
Anyway, he applied in October of 2004, got work authorization in Late Nov.2004, and interviewed the following July 2005 and was granted temporary residence at the interview. His green card arrived approx. 2 weeks later.
I know if you have a criminal record, have not paid US income taxes while here,or are not earning enough it will take longer(and weill work against you)
Was there anything weird about your answers at the interview?
Overstaying, and marrying a US citizen, usually is forgiven by USCIS.
My good friend married a man who had overstayed by 4 years and his green card took less time (from filing to interview) than ours did.
I did all of the paperwork myself, and saved the $2500 lawyer fees. However, we paid an attorney $100 for a consult first and asked him everything we could think of.
Good luck!...hang in there.
My hubby is from the UK and I am from the US. Trust me we had to wait more than 3 months. So don't worry, relax they just take forever. It's not a bad sign..it is honestly a loonngg process. Especially if you are waiting for your green card. Good luck. Hang tight.
I'm not exactly sure. That being said is your student visa expired? If you visa has expired and you have overstayed it, it will further hurt your cause.
With the new laws pending in the Senate this week, it is hard to tell how long you will have to wait.
If they pass this new bill, they might put the illegals ahead of you. That's how stupid this new immigration reform bill is.
The process is slow and difficult especially since 9/11. It took my husband 18 months before he received his work permit! It took us a total of 3 years and filing fees of $3,000 before he finally received his permanent residency card (green card). He can now file for his U.S. citizenship but like everything else at BCIS the filing fee has gone up yet again!
