H1B to Green Card and Marriage?
I am on H1 B and my priority date is current for the Green Card(GC). and i want to get married soon. but the lawyer says gave me only one option to get married before August 2007. but it is impossible for me to get married so soon since i am settling down in my career. Is there any other option other than getting married so soon. and I still get my GC.
thanks a lot,
Pankaj

Do you know the lawyer's reasoning?
Assuming your fiancee is not a citizen...
If your priority date is current, you can file an I-485 application for permanent residency now, but your fiancee will have to wait a LONG time to gain permanent residency if you file before marrying her. If you marry, THEN file, your wife can derive benefits under your I-485 and file her own immediately.
There is a very high likelihood that the visas will backlog again by the end of summer or early fall. The lawyer may be giving you a deadline to ensure you marry before filing (important for your fiancee), but aiming to file before visas backlog again (important for you).
Unless your fiancee qualifies for an H-1B or other nonimmigrant visa on her own, your decision not to marry until later could severely delay her ability to live in the US.
If your fiancee IS a citizen... the reason may simply be that USCIS filing fees are going up drastically on July 30 and s/he's trying to save you money.
