Why do you think immigrants preferred steam ships?

In the 1880's 3 quarters of the immigrants immigrated from Britain to Australia on steam ships. Why do you think this was the case?

Answer:
They didn't want to take a chance and relay on the wind. Stem Ships are also faster.
i think it was because there was an ocean. and they didn't want to swim.
