How long after you marry an american do you have wait to be able to start working?

I am Canadian and about to marry my boyfriend who is American. After we get married and I move down there, how long or what do I have to wait for before I am eligible to start working. Neither of us has a lot of money so it would be a stretch for me not to work.

Answer:
You need a visa / work permit, with Social Security card. Once you get the green card (visa) the rest is just paperwork you need to get done. However, the time varies. In a simple case I've seen numbers like 3 months. I've seen horror story numbers of over a year, as well, in unusual circumstances. It is worse if you are here illegally and have to return to your country and get a stay put on you. It doesn't sound like that applies to you, though. All of those times are for the conditional green card you need to be here to begin with. When you have that you can get the others, pretty quickly.
You have to apply for a green card.

u have to wait for them to send you your papers. your boyfriend could work though
Just go to Mc Donalds they are the company with all the opportunities.
You are immediately eligible, hop to it.
You are not going to get a work permit just for marrying, if your intention is to live and work in the USA you need to file for permanent residency while the paperwork is being processed you will get the permission to work ( of course, if you file for it $).

1. Get married.
2. File all the papers including the work permit.
3. USCIS receives your papers, and you should get the work permit within 90 days after they receive your file.
