We have a revolving door policy in this country that sorely needs to be curbed. The door opens inward to allow cheap foreign labor and cheap foreign goods to enter. And the door opens outward to allow our investment money and manufacturers to leave the U.S.
This double whammy is making itself felt in our labor markets, trade imbalances and a weakened general economy. We survived two big wars only because of our industrial might. That might, and the workers who strengthened it are fast disappearing.
If anything needs torpedoeing, it's our ineffective congress.
Well, I don't know that we need to torpedo cargo ships, that's a little overkill, don't you think? However, I have seen more and more articles in the news about Immigration raids and more and more about cities and states starting to write legislation to counter illegal immigration. If this continues at a steady pace up until election time, I believe our representatives will get the idea of what the citizens of the USA want with immigration. The main thing I want to hear is more charges against employers and stern punishments. I truly believe that is the way to go and that if the jobs weren't here, many would stop trying to come and many of those here now would pick up and go home on their own accord and save us the cost of deportation. Along with hitting the employers big-time, we need to completely stop allowing illegal immigrants to partake of our social benefits, meaning no more free medical, free education, subsidized housing, food stamps, etc. And get rid of that misinterpreted "anchor baby" loophole that serves as a HUGE incentive for illegal immigration. Really not that hard, if you think about it. It doesn't necessarily have to mean that we have to personally catch and deport ALL illegal immigrants. It's not rocket science. If these things were done, many would leave on their own and many more would not bother trying to come.
