I think I have a problem. I've been living in Mexico for many years (I'm a US citizen) and I've?
Answer:
Careful. If you are of another nationality and naturalize as an American citizen you can have both. But is different if you are American and take another nationality. I am a u.s. citizen married to a Mexican citizen, and lived in Mexico. I was told I could have both and went to relaciones exteriores to take also the Mexican citizen. Oh surprise 7 months later got notified by the embassy that I am no longer a us. citizen because I took oath to a foreign country. Careful. I have been trying to fix this. Get good advise and careful what you sign. Relaciones exteriores are very miss informed. Now I am back in the U. S. living and trying to fix this. But if Relaciones Exteriores approves it and the Embassy calls you, you can at the embassy appeal and do not sign anything at the embassy agreeing on the Mexican citizen.
Yes you can have dual citizenship.I know several Mexican that have it. Just be sure you know what you are doing and be cautious.
You need legal advice from an immigration law specialist.
Many of us here in the states , have that double citizenship,so nothing out of this world.
Don't know who the fk in our embassy told you that, because the US does NOT recognize "dual" citizenship - you're American or you aren't. Still, I've never known of an arrangement with any country whereby the US will proactively revoke citizenship if you apply for citizenship elsewhere too.
Renounce the Mexican application.
Alias is dead wrong. the jews with their dual citizenship us /israeli in the 80's opened the flood gate for ereryone else. the achille lauro murders by the terrorists allowed the lobby here to push for it since hijackers were using peoples passports to figure out who was israeli and then killing them. a quick google will let you know. my passport( us) says that if i am a dual national i can not expect us consular help if i get introuble in the counrty of other citizenship .
it's easier if your married 2 a Mexican woman but if not then seek the advice of a professional i don't think U have 2 give up your us citizenship or if 1or both parents R Mexicans they can help U 2
alias is TOTALLY WRONG. you are fine, don't worry. the US doesnt have a problem with this, although they aren't going to give you a big hug and a thumbs up.
believe me, if you wanted to give up your US citizenship...you would know it. you can't just stumble upon it accidentaly.
