This story aggravated me, and wanted to see what others thought.?

Yeah, I'm an American Citizen, I work hard- I fell on hard times (thanks to the bomming economy I hear so much about)-I had the same job for about 10 years, and I do have a college degree. I did get laid off and within 4 months found a new job making about 40% less than I did at my other job. The healthcare provided by this new company is horrible. I have to pay $329.00 a month, as well as a $2,000 dedutible, and then after the deductible is met it is then 80%/20%- and I have no choice, some programs you have an option of a high, mid, or low dedutable- not this, this is my only option. I can't afford it, it's almost not even worth having insurance, it's just to much money. So I applied for the Healthy Kids/Kid Care program and got my denial in the mail 2 days ago. So I guess the program really is only set up to help those who don't work, and illegals- cause why would our government dare help hard working American citizens.
Answer:
I completely agree with you and I was recently in the same situation. I was let go from my job in December just 2 weeks before Christmas. My husband works full time but I carried the benefits as his company does not really offer any good health insurance. We have 2 boys under 5. We applied for assistance and were denied. So we applied for the MIChild insurance here in Michigan which everyone assured us we would get. You pay approx $5 per child per month. We were denied because we make too much money. I'm sorry but paying our mortgage and our car payment, heat, electric and water pretty much tapped us out. We had no money left for private health insurance premiums which were 400-500 per month. Of course, my job offered me COBRA for the low price of 1200 per month. It was ridiculous. I was very upset because my husband and I have both been working and paying into the system since we were 16! Yet when we need a helping hand temporarily we are denied. Thankfully, our boys have been healthy and I found another job in Feb. Of course, my benefits don't start until June...just a few weeks to go!
Okay like it didn't get me mad.
I agree!
I'm sorry about your plight.
I hope things work out for you since it sounds that you deserve it.
Thats the truth, I can understand helping some CITIZENS who need help (not mooching), But when you are putting into the system and get denied heathcare because you make above their cutoff,(middle class usually) You are screwed. It kills me to have to support those that are coming in and getting the care for free.
I cannot afford health insurance either, make too much to qualify for assistance, yet not enough to pay for insurance premiums. I started a health savings account.
Illegals are a strain on the health care system, we all pay for them in increased costs.
You are not the first person to lose their job and have to start over. A lot of people that I know have had to start over two or three times, my self included. We learned that we had two choices we could work our way up in this company to receive better pay or we could continue to look for a better job because no where is it written that if we lose our job we are entitled to another one with the same pay and benefits. I don't mean to sound like I don't care but that the way it is nothing in life is easy.
I am a native Floridian and they are driving me up the wall too.
I am raising two grandchildren. I have had my 3 year old grandson since he was 3 months old. His sister is 2 and I have had her since she was born. She was born 2 months premature and is 10 months younger than her brother. They have been on Medicaid since birth because I do not have full custody of them, I can not put them on my insurance. The state sent me a letter in March of this year stating that I needed to provide proof that there are U.S. citizens. I gave them a copy of the childrens birth certificates and called the "case worker". He told me that was all I needed to do.
Two weeks later I got a letter saying that they needed a copy of the children's photo I.D.'s. I again called my "case worker" who has yet to return my calls. I have left him 9 messages. I finally got to speak to someone else who faxed me several forms to fill out on each child stating that they live with me and that they are too young to have a photo I.D.
A week later I got a letter stating that the children's coverage has been canceled because I did not follow through with the terms of the letters and interview process. I had faxed the paperwork back to the state right after I had filled them out the same day as the woman sent them to me. I ended up having to reapply to the state to get these children the coverage they need and now I am being told it could take up to 45 days to get their coverage back if they are approved.
I have asked for no other help from the State of Florida other than the health coverage for them. This is something that I cannot get on my own as they are not my children. Florida Kid Care will not cover them because they are not mine either. So now I have to wait. Meawhile, the granddaughter has been in the hospital twice while all of this has been going on. The thing that gets me is the fact that if they were in foster care instead of with me, then they would never have lost the coverage in the first place. Because they are with a family member, their coverage can be taken away. If they were with a foster family, the state would have to pay the family quite a bit of money every month to take care of these children on top of providing them with coverage.
I would like this one explained to me too.
EDIT: please contact me through me e-mail. I just got through to the state and my grandkids coverage is now in effect again. If you contact me and give me a way to contact you, I may be able to help.
That's infuriating. With my first pregnancy, I was denied Medicaid (I was making barely enough to scrape by, but not enough for my own private insurance policy). I was the only English-speaking person in the office. I was the most humiliating experience of my life to be there.
It seemed, though, that the illegals were in and out the door in less than twenty minutes where I had to stay the entire day there. I was not asking for food stamps or living assistance. I was asking for state provided health insurance that MY taxes were paying for, anyways. Denied. I made less than 19,000 per year back then as a single parent, and they denied it.
God forbid the government help those who actually do something FOR the system instead of take away from it.
I'm now on my second pregnancy, and have not one, but TWO insurance policies (mine and my husband's). I'm going walk in to that hospital and STILL have to pay $1,500 to have this baby, whereas some illegal immigrant can come in, act like they don't know any English, and walk out after having their anchor baby for free.
Shoot, I'm tempted to paint myself brown and become an illegal immigrant. lol
Criminals - including illegals because if they violated a law they are just plain criminals - and lazy people get away with everything and get all the benefits from the government, while the majority that are decent-hard-working-tax payers are not elegible for anything. The main problems is the we are silent majority, we never raise our voices, never fight for our rights, never go to the streets to march and demand the rights we've earned, so the big-mouths,criminals, illegals, lazy scum get everything while we just work our a_s off to be able to survive.
I agree. Start deporting and enforce our laws.
I had my children on KidCare in Florida and it was totally USELESS. Only certain Dr's accepted it and they are the same few Dr's that accept medicaid and it was impossible to get in to see them. They'd say...next available appointment is 4 wks away and if you can't wait...go to the ER. So...you go to the ER, they bill KidCare and then they say.well, we don't consider this an emergency so you're stuck with the bill anyway.
I would have been better off not having it coz it was alot of money thrown in the wind. I had a friend who's daughter lost her hearing in one ear because the dim wads wouldn't refer her to a specialist when it was obviously needed.
My experience with them has left me feeling quite sure that if there is some "medical reform"..the government is the last people who should run it. What the heck good is it if it's not good for anything?
Thanks to the baby boom of illegals.Florida is also another state where clinics are closing because they are going broke. Citizens who need it now have it taken away because of the EXCESSIVE use and abuse of this system by people who shouldn't even be here!
Our citizens are loosing out on things they've paid for. I know for many...going to welfare was the LAST thing they wanted to do. I've read articles where people are going door to door and telling illegals it is a service that they are ENTITLED to and they have advocates making sure they get it. For everyone that gets it...it's a citizen that doesn't ,and the coffers aren't endless.
Because America is run by big business-medical and drug companies-tobacco, oil. they donate to politicians so the politician will help their company make more money. Look at Canada's great system. Probably a lot of what your hard working self should be entitled to also goes to our lazy welfare, unemployment, food stamp scammers who won't work and then we have to pay for all their babies being born. It is a shame how we help out losers who can work but won't
