Do people think wages will stay low once the illegal immigrants become legal?
Now, regardless of how you feel on the immigration issue, it REALLY bugs me when people say stupid stuff like this.
Do you REALLY think that, once they become legal, they will work for the same wages? Of course not!! They will not be in this country legally, paying taxes, and will start asking fro what Americans would be paid for the same jobs. And, if we continue paying them less, they will complain (remember women and the glass ceiling? Well, this is no different)
So, please don't use this as an argument. It only makes you look ignorant.
Does everyone agree?
Answer:
Yes I do. They are willing to work for $10 an hour because at home they would earn only $10 a day. My wage for the same job was $20 an hour four years ago now it is $15 and I still can't compete. They will work cheaper than the job is worth and builders pocket the difference and they are not asked for insurance or Workman's comp while I am because I'm white they know I can't cheat and get away with it the IRS or Workman's comp would hang me out to dry.
p
I haven't seen this an argument for amnesty. I've seen it as an argument against deportation.
Don't f.ng encourage them, we'll never get shut
Your question makes you look like a bigot. You basically want these people to remain the private sector's slaves.
I hope they demand higher wages. I hope they ask for benefits. America is a land of opportunity for ALL, not just the rich buisness owners.
Thier wages won't stay low, they'll go up, while those of citizens will go down.
The flood of illegals attracted by the prospect of future Amnesty, however, will provide the looked-for 'cheap labor.'
(And, if you don't believe that Amensty attracts illegals, consider that there were around 3 million illegals before the last Amnesty, that another 2 million 'came out of the woodwork' to take advantage of it, and that we now have 12+ million illegals waiting for the coming one.)
I agree with you right now they are not legal and off course they will work for less so they can have the job. If they become legal they are going to want more or they look for another job they will then have the right to work legal.
The vast majority of illegal aliens use fake SS cards to get a job in the first place. So the employer deducts the taxes out of the paycheck prior to issuing it to the employee. To say that they don't "pay taxes" is false.
Now to answer the question, I honestly don't think that the rate of these low-wage jobs is going to change dramatically based on the immigrant status of the worker.
hah! I ain't sweating it.once they become legal...they got nothing to compete against me or any of you MyTend.com people.
who's gonna lose their job to high school dropouts?
it's the cost of helping/taking care of them is what im worried. as far as wages: corporate America will try any way possible to keep it down. But then again, who's at the bottom of the chain?
obviously not us, but them the new high school dropouts illegal turn legal immigrants!
You question doesnt make any sense and seems to be laced with opinion.
I would consider your question an arguement more than a question, despite your disclaimer.
Citizens, immigrants, all have a hand in the problem.
Your question is moot. THEY WON'T BECOME LEGAL! You are assuming that the Senate's piece of crap will become law. I highly doubt it will. The house is too afraid of loosing their jobs and they know that most Americans are livid about amnesty.
Unbiased poll indicated that about 46% of Americans are against the Sentate's amnesty bill. About 23% were for it. They rest didn't know. That means that twice as many people were PASSIONATLY AGAINST amnesty bill than the people that were for it.
In spite of what the idiots in Washington say (e.g., Feinswine, Pelosi, BUSH, etc...) the Senate's piece of crap is amnesty!
I agree with you, except the supposed amnesty isn't amnesty. That immigration bill isn't a solution it just compounds our current problem and will make immigration even worse.

sounds good huh...maybe we can get them some social security benefits too...and then we can mail the checks straight to Mexico so they don't have to. save them the western union fees. It is after all just for the greater good of humanity... Doesn't it make you feel all humanitarian?
Forget the 'illegals' my friend it's the 6 million 'legals' that are going to f.uck the country!
Oh rubbish..So what your saying is you want to keep a permanent underclass? And yes, they are entitled to better pay, and THOSE employers must comply with the labor laws and pay them at least minimum wage. And what is wrong with women receiving the same pay as men do, if they can do the same job? You sound like your a bit sexist.
No, not everyone agrees.
