How could a secure border with Mexico be a bad thing?
Answer:
It wouldn't and wont be a bad thing. The wall will be massive and expensive but worth every moments work and every penny spent. The wall will virtually eliminate illegal Mexican immigration, drug trafficking, reduce crime in border towns and outward, and decrease the surplus population of anchor babies. Who could say any of that is bad? Illegals, who want something, make that everything, for nothing.
the boarder is freaking huge
plus why would you want a wall keeping people out...
remember... america the mixing pot, land of the FREE?!
because then the mexicans wold get airplanes
It's not.
But if you listen to liberals, it's racist.
our grass would never be cut..and home depot and wal-mart would be empty
It hasnt been done because the people that should be lobbying for this, are the ones that hire the illegals in the first place. They dont want it to end, so their profits will stay high.
umm. well no more drugs.. for a start!
It wouldn't be a bad thing, it would be wonderful. Keep calling your reps with these questions.
I dont think anyone opposes border security...
oops never mind some people do...
Because if you secure the border you will be doing away with cheap labor that's a bad thing for the Kennedy's, the Harry Reid's and Bush.
It isn't a bad thing...the only thing that it would do was slow down the North American Union (which again isn't a bad thing at all)!
There is a much easier way. stop the employment of Mexicans, stop the givaways, stop the trade agreement with Mexico and enforce the current laws.
There are no negatives! Yes, this is the land of the free for those who are legal and able to follow the laws of the land!
because the liberals think its racist or something like that it doesn't have really any negatives i mean there illegal they have no right to be here they should just go get a green card its not hard at all you just have to fill out some info then promise to learn english which alot of them don't and yes, this is land of the free for those who are legal and able to follow the laws of the land which they dont' do they lots of them don't learn english and act like its mexico
you should make all the people in prison join hand in hand and make a wall..if they decide to jump the wall or whatever than just shoot them...if they took all that energy and put it into mexico mabye thy could make it better instead of just running away..i know so many who got here the legal way.
We can keep 90-95% of the illegals out.
1. Make them think twice about even trying. Right now
it's a free meal or 2, health care if needed, and a ride
back to the border. Throw them in jail for 6 months of
hard labor fixing roads and cleaning up trash, and see
how the numbers go down.
2. Bill the Mexican government for all related costs of
dealing with their illegals- health care, transportation,
etc. They won't pay? Stop importing Mexican goods, or
slap a tariff equal to the money we spend on illegals
to all goods coming from Mexico.
3. Give the Border Patrol some teeth. Stop making the
whole mess a political question, and put it in the hands
of law enforcement. It's a crime, right?
The problem of immigration is much more complicated that that. Many businesses need cheap laborers from Mexico in order to survive- farms, wal-mart, your favorite fast food restaurants. If we were to make it difficult for people from Mexico to immigrate here illegally, there would not be enough people who are willing to work for minimum or very low wages, and these companies would have to pay their laborers more. This is a problem politicians recognize on both sides, and this is why they do not build a secure border.
Plus, have you ever heard of the Berlin Wall?
Then convicts couldn't escape to mexico. lol. No seriously, Financially it would be very expensive. Other than that there really is no bad thing. It would be one large amount of money to make it more secure but in the long run would save alot of money.
1.I like my bananas cheap.
2.Don't fix what ain't broke. What is so bad about illegal immigrants? If we make people prove citizenship to go to school and to get welfare then we fix the main problem. Americans shouldn't be doing the jobs those illegals are doing. Americans should be going to college and that problem is more difficult then fixing immigration policies.
Near as I can figure it out, illegal immigrants mean low-cost labor to lots of businesses, and lots of businesses pressure lots of politicians to ignore the problem of illegal immigration.
By the way, the real cause of businesses choosing the employ illegal immigrants is the Minimum Wage Law. It's a terrible law. It doesn't excuse employers that break the law, but it's a cause.
You can't make an employer pay a higer wage, you can only prevent an employer from legally paying a lower wage. Think about that.
Minimum Wage Law means I'll hire less people, and make current employees do the work of the people I now can't afford to hire.
If global trade was fair, this would not be a big issue. There has always been a lot of immigration into the US. NAFTA greatly increased the pressure from Mexico by flooding the Mexican market with corn grown in the US with government subsidy. Un-subsidized Mexican farmers could not compete, and were driven to cities in droves to work in factories, or find a way north. The rise of manufacturing in China closed a lot of the border factories.
Fences are not the answer. Trade policy that is more favorable to working people, instead of the global corporate elite is the answer.
There is no downside. The starting pay is $8.50 an hour for a agricultural worker. A US teenager can pay for an XBox 360 after three days work in the fields. Our government needs to recruit our own to take these jobs.
it can't some asshole lied to you, there would not be as much drugs. No more new diseases. and especialy, no overpopulating! who wants to become like china!?!?!
A secure boarder has no negatives. The will of our Government to enforce the laws we already have are the only negative. We can all cut our own grass and if not we could start employing the homeless and jobless to do these jobs. we could also go back to the prison system to help with the lower skilled jobs. We have enough people it is our Government and some employers who do not have the will to do it.
The Berlin wall was built to keep people IN not out.
Securing the border would be a good thing. If the argument is made that we NEED the cheap labor, get it out of our own prison system. There is a huge number of able bodied people there. Better yet, pay a decent wage by American standards for the work you claim Americans won't do. Its not that Americans won't do the work, its that they won't do the work at the wages offered, nor will they do the work under the dismal conditions that are prevailing. The illegals are in the workplace to skirt around labor law.
Dan,
To answer Your question poses a great many possabilities, and there are not many happy/ agreeable answers. I was born, raised, educated, and worked just north of the Rio Grand River, in deep south Texas. I have traveled through 52 foreign countries, including extensivly in Mexico.
After I mustered out of the U.S. Army, in Dec. '59 and returned to south Texas, I proposed that:. The American military troups, stationed in Germany, France, England, Italy, and Spain be returned to the USA, stationed from Boca Chica Beach ( South East of Brownsville, Texas) to the Pacific ocean, West of San Diego, Cal., and that a 14 foot fence be errected the entire length. My intentions were not to prevent the entrance of the Mexican Nationals to work! But rather to HINDER the drug trade, which at that time was about 1/ 10,000 of todays traffic!!! Well, needless to say, the POLATITIONS/ MORANS/ BUREAUCRATS thought I had totally flipped out!
Today, I firmlly believe that this same suggested activity would serve an extremly vital need. DON'T BELIEVE THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN, THO!!!
Now, allow me to expound a bit more, conveying a bit of the other side of the coin: After my first wife charged more, in two weeks, than I GROSSED (Total Income) in a year, I was forced to leave my job at the telephone company, and go over-seas, in order to earn enough money to pay off the bills, or face ruining my credit (in those days, bad credit was a direct reflection and indication that you were SCUM, UNTRUSTWORTHY, BEREFF OF DEACENSY, and generally considered lower that the village drunk!!
The " ILLIGALS" from Mexico, ( 99,991%) are here to earn enough to facilitate their living, and send home money, to FEED, CLOTH, EDUCATE, and CARE FOR THEIR FAMILY!!! I suspect that you, and all the other RESPONSIBLE, MATURE ADULTS would do the same, given that you were placed into the same situation !! Mexico does not-not have the unemployment income- pay, wic cards, subsidized housing ( section8) , SSI, and / or other benefits/ dole, that we have here in the USA.
I have retired, and I have a home north of Houston, Texas, and another home in a desert mountains valley of north central Mexico , over 200 miles south of the Rio Grand River (A.K.A. Rio Bravo in Mexico).
The AVERAGE MEXICAN NATIVE is honest, has the ultimate in integrity( when was the last time you could get a binding obligation with only a hand shake here in the GOOD OL' USA?), peacefull, lives a tranquil life style, places the family first and foremost, works hard/ willing to swet, for his family! I live in a town, in a valley, about 8,000 to 9,000 population, and IN 18 MONTHS, I HEARD CAR HORNS HONK SEVEN(7) TIMES !!!! The unemployment rate is about 1 1/2 percent. If there is no available work ( the area has usually an abundance of jobs, in the mines, pecan orchards, vineyards, winery, dairy farms, alphalfa fields, vegestable farms, etc.), then they will work in the larger cities IF THEY CAN NOT BEGIN THEIR OWN BUSINESS!!
LEAVING THEIR LOVED ONES/ FAMILY IS NOT- NOT THEIR FIRST PRIORITY!!! TO COME TO THE U.S.A. IS RATHER LIKE A LAST- LAST CHOISE ! The journey is dangerous, hard, gruilling, lonely, and, unfortunitly many have died !!!
I, as an American having traveled through out the world, and personally observed the depths of poverty, despaire, the looks of people with no hope for improvement, I have often wondered, HOW MANY AMERICANS could survive in the same situation. Believe it or not, Mexico is not among the poorest nations / regions of the world, how ever, not yet to the standard of living, we Americans take for granted.
IF OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS/ MORONS/ IDIOTS/ GREEDY BASTAXXS CONTINUE, WE WILL - WILL REGRESS TO A STATE LOWER THAN MEXICO IS, OR HAS BEEN IN THE PAST! After all, WE HAVE THE BEST POLITICIANS THAT MONEY CAN BUY !!!! Crooked dictators / tyrants, etc. from around the world, send their children to the USA, to study how to shaft / stick it to their citizens, stealing that which the people have !
Watch out , DAN, this comming years elections could cripple this country GREATLY, and those damXXd Washington Nuts JUST DON'T CARE! TO BELIEVE OTHER WISE, WILL PROVE THAT YOUR I.Q. DOES AMOUNT TO THE NUMBER OF FINGERS ON YOU LEFT HAND !!!
One more point I wish to make : WHEN YOU SEE SOME ONE POINT A FINGER ( EITHER PHYSICALLY OR FIGURATIVELY) TO "PUT " SOME ONE ELSE DOWN, REMEMBER, "THUMB" RYHMES WITH "DUMB", and THE POINTER IS TRYING TO HIDE THE 3 FINGERS POINTING BACK AT HIM, WITH HIS DUMB THUMB !!!! Why are those 3 fingers pointing at the accusor, what is he trying to cover up??
Just a few thoughts, from an ol' man.
Uncle Wil
Well, there's the cost, which would be a LOT, as it's a pretty long border.
Then there's the idea of it.
YOU may want to live in a gulag, but not everyone else does.
Besides, if people from Mexico didn't come here, a LOT of businesses would fold, and a lot of things would be prohibitively expensive.
