What's wrong w/ a guest worker program?

Why are illegal immigrants so opposed to a guest worker program? It seems fair and reasonable.

Answer:
Because it means that they cannot come in to the country in droves and do as they please. There would be accountability, a novel concept. And, they would have to leave.
They want to be permanent, guest work would have to leave at some point.
Think of it as a business negotiation- they and their supporters are holding out for as much as they can get. Permanent residency would allow illegals to work for any employer, whereas a guest worker would probably be tied to an individual employer. Given the experience Germany has had with its guest workers, I find it unlikely that the US would send back its own en masse once their services were no longer wanted or their permits expired. Some illegals want a chance to get US citizenship, although I suspect that most do not. That can only be done if you have been a permanent resident for a number of years.
Because THEY would have to pay back society. and THEY WANT IT FREE!

I think it is great because guests are totally fun especially the hot ones.
