If you are born in another country are you still an american citizen?

my friend was born in belgium, her parents are both american citizens. is she?

Answer:
yes
yes that is how it works
both american citzens shes american i believe when she comes back in the country for the limited time before your an american like immgrants do but she is a belgiumian
yes - this happens to military brats all the time. You can take my word for it or you can go to the US Immigration website.
I'm afraid your friend is Belgiumese.
yes.Children born to US citizens are automatically US citizens. They may also be eligible for citizenship in the country of birth as well and the US allows dual citizenship with certain countries. Kids are born all the time to americans living abroad..military, emabassy, business people etc and they are all US citizens. Children of citizens are always citizens, but a child can be a citizen while the parents are not. Thats why the preggo illegals love to come accross the border and drop their kids here. The kids are citizens. Called "anchor babies"
You have duel citizenship, and when your 18, you get to choose.
I Think? I know someone that has duel citizenship, but their father is American and their mother Japanese.
If she was born in the US, then Yes. If not she'll get it faster.
nope.she herself has to be legally signed in.
Absolutely! Anyone born to an American citizen is one also.
BOth
should really consult a lawyer.. most likely she is, since both her parents are citizens
No she is not, her parents are American citizens but she is a Belgium citizen unless she has a American green card then she is a American citizen
She is and her parents should have registered her birth on the forms for US Nationals born abroad at or near the time of the baby's birth.
well my cousin was born in iran in the 70's and both his parents are us citizens i think the parents choose which country they want the kid to be a citizen of or my cousin might have chosen when he was like 18 i'm not sure.
You can be a citizen of the country of birth, but if your parents are US citizens then you automatically become a us citizen too
yes u can take a test
She has to take a test to be an american citizen actually. But that's what I only THINK
She has dual citizenship.
A person born in another country with American parents is a citizen of the said country because citizenship in USA is through "jus soli" or citizenship is acquired where born.
She can easily become one through her parents.
Yes Indeed .....if she is given a citizenship by Belgium which is not likely ,she will be a Belgian too....But She is also a US citizen.

if her parents are world famous ones or Some Political Figure.their child is likely 2 get a belgian Citizenship..
i think am sure abt this....
yes, she is an american citizen
she is an american..she'd have to find out if the law in belgium says she is a Belgian too...tell her not to waffle on the decision though..lol...Waffle..Belgium.... it!
She has to get her citizenship. It is a test that she has to take
if one if the parents was in the military, that person would be a US Citizen. My sister and I were born in Izmir, TURKEY and we are US Citizens, (military). Her birth certificate would state that.
(my b.c, is about 5 pages long)
Yes. Too bad the United States doesn't follow the same policy on illegals that have children here in the US.

i.e. If a couple of Mexicans come to the US illegally and they have a child born here, then their child is automatically a US citizen. Flawed system.
yes, i think so. I know military couples who are stationed in another country and who have a baby while there -their babies are American citizens
My parents were in the military and I was born in Turkey. I had dual citizenship until I was 21 years old. My parents had to go to a Judge and was claimed to be a citizen at birth. This status gives me all the rights of any citizen.
I THINK SHE IS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN AND A CITIZEN OF THE COUNTRYS SHE WAS BORN IN. I THINK IT IS THE IMMIGRATION LAWS FOR THE USA.
I believe people are not reading the question right. She was born in another country. Therefore, no she is not a U.S. citizen.
