Should we all take spanish classes?
( i dont have any problems with them living here as long as they are legal) but things will change dramitically
and i can only speak one langauge that is english
and i m only 23 so i have time in my hands to learn spanish inorder for me to communicate in my own country

No! absolutely not! Why should we have to speak Spanish? This is the United States of America, and our language is English. Accept it, live with it, or get the hell out!! They're not entitled to anything. We have the right not to learn to speak Spanish. Are we going to lose our United States of America? I hope not. Somebody, please save our America.
take what ever language class is best for you are. for my area spanish is best, for westrn oregon russian might be good.
Maybe they should learn English? I wouldn't even travel, let alone live in, a country that I don't speak the language of, they should do the same.

It's a good idea to learn a second language as that's how intelligence is measured in most of the world. Most people in Europe and Asia speak more than two, sometimes three, languages. Since you live in North America, Spanish would be a good language to learn. Plus, it's Latin based so it would be easier for you than Chinese or any other Asian language..buena suerte, amigo!

America will NEVER have any language other than ENGLISH as the nations language.So it WILL be used in school and they will have to learn it.So the idea of us learning Spanish is a moot point.
No, if English is the language here than English it is. People who come here legally will learn English, if not they will be stuck in dead end jobs.
By all means learn Spanish, but if you really want to be on the cutting edge, learn Mandarin Chinese. In the business world, the Chinese are going to be the economic power horse of the next 20-30 years.

in high schools, every US must go to high school, you have to learn another langauge, in most, to fulfill the requirment to graduate. so why do you feel it you have to learn spanish, if you don't like it then go to a place where they don;t speak spanish.

I went to school for twelve years to learn the ins and outs of English and I do not wish to learn Spanish. If I were as young as you and had the time I would probably learn it.
No we don't all need to learn Spanish. If I was a factory owner or fast-food owner then I might learn the language to speak to my low paid workers. However, since I'm not and English is our national language I'll stick with just that.

Frankly, many Americans are just simply ignorant of the distiction between the "Spanish" as a language that we hear spoken and the mestizos that are its main speakers here. I think we just associate the Spanish language with the mestizos that we hear speaking it so badly all the time and don't think much about it being a European language. I doubt many Americans have met a Spaniard or ever heard Penninsular Spanish spoken properly, except for maybe in a Spanish class with a properly trained teacher.
I think this is more of an American problem because I don't think you have this problem with non-Spaniard Europeans, as they are already familiar with Spaniards. The problem with Spanish here in America would be similar to judging the French based on only hearing Haitians speaking Haitian "French" or judging the English based on only hearing Jamaicans speaking Jamaican "English", without ever knowing much about the original European languages.
Who gives a crap. If you feel the need to speak spanish, move to mexico. If you stay here, speak English, it's the language of THIS country.
