Does anyone think that British born citizens should come first for housing and benefits?
Answer:
is this for Britain? if so, then yes
It sounds like the British have the American desease, of taking care of the Worlds poor over their own.
Yes - immigrants ans asylum seekers should get NOTHING
yeh to right they should, i'v been trying to get a hosue for 2 an a half yrs, but every house i go for foreign ppl always end up with them first, i don't think it's right at all!
It's only fair that british citizens get priority over foregin people it would be the same in their country.
Yes
yes most def, im not saying no to housing non uk citizens but when theres such a shortage for houses as it is surely we should get priority. stop buildin show homes tht unless your alreadly on the ladder we cant afford to buy and start giving some of the millions we pay in taxes everyear to councils for social and affordiable housing
Definately!! And also I believe people who pay their taxes and thus can pay their rent should be entitled to a house first. I think they should also discontinue the allowing of people to buy their council property! No wonder there is a shortage of housing when they sell it off for so cheap, only for these people then to go and sell it for 2-3 times more then they paid for it!!
Most cases yes,but for Such as the Victoria Cross Gurkha NO.
I am quessing that you are British. Yes I think citizens of any country should come first before immagr ents. I live in America and it seems that illegals get more help than the working class does in the states. I am in the process of moving to another country myself! Not England, don't worry. I feel our goverments have let us all down.
No, I do not think so because each case is different. I certainly do not believe they should come last either, as is often the case admittedly. I think that people nationality should not be taken into account and therefore object to seeing ethnic group boxes to tick on just about every municipal form we have to fill in these days! If we live in a non-racist society why do we take race into account anymore than the colour of eyes or hair? Inverted or negative racism is just as bad as jackbooted positive discrimination. I lived in South Africa and have seen both ends of the stick.literally
Yes i do.
There are so many homeless people that need housing first..
Also families that have to live in smaller properties, because there arent enough.
Definatley british citizens should come first. Also amount of time on housing list should count, but doesnt seem to,.
if people dont give nothing to this once great country they should get nothing. we are too soft to speak up in case the politically correct brigade brand us racist
I do!
I have an 18mth old daughter who has to sleep in the same bed as me because the council will not put me first for housing. she has had to do this since she was 10mths old this is all because i go to work, can you believe it?
they recommend you don't sleep in a bed with a baby for fear of suffocation, but do the council care??
I'm a single parent who goes to work but i don't earn a lot of money so am unable to rent privately.
I know there are not enough houses for everybody but at least putting us first gives people like me a chance.
If they stopped giving house to people who have just arrived in the country as refugees or whatever and sorted out there own ''people'' it would make the system a whole lot fairer.
I live on an estate, and all the houses that have become available have gone to refugees, immigrants and alike.
I feel that its not fair for British born citizens because we get pushed to the back of the queue and this sort of behaviour from the government just encourages people to come into our country because they know they will get a house, benefits, free health care etc...
But hey, this is only my opinion....
No in England the ENGLISH people should come first
I have long felt that to receive support you should have payed in to it
when my son left school at 16 he wasn't entitled to any support but this was not so for ALL
The real problem is that there is not enough council housing. Thatcher's policy of selling off houses to tenants at reduced prices was a great mistake. This Labour government isn't building nearly enough houses or flats. So, they're not much better than the torys.
Asylum seekers are rarely given council properties. When they do get them they're usually flats in areas nobody else wants.
Economic immigrants with large families will eventually get an offer of accommodation. A young English born couple will look at such an offer with justified anger.
If the BNP thrive it will be because both Labour and Conservative governments have failed to provide enough housing for the people.
We should look after our own people first. The people who come here to try and make a better life for themselves and their families should know that initially it will be a struggle, but it will be worth it eventually
yes they should . my sister with 2 children was told she did not have enough points for a council house , two weeks later a family of asylum seekers were housed in a 3 bed room house that was only empty for 3 days
Of course, what the point of being British, if others are being treated better than our own ? Immigrants should not be eligible to receive any benefits until they have lived and worked here for a minimum 5yrs. Its about time we took care of our own first.
of course if you weren't born here you shouldn't get anything
Don't you realize the labour government are buying their votes by giving them houses.
If you are talking to Britian then YES! I think all the any citizens from the country you are in should be given first choice for anything in their country!
Yes - sort out our own before others and then maybe they would all go back to where they came from
personally i think a case shud b reveiwd on the persons needs irespective of wether they are a british born citizen
yes
It kinda makes sense that the people who were born in the UK and who have grown up there should get priority on the housing list - it's only an island after all - with just a small amount of council homes that are available. Unfortunately things seem to be working the opposite way right now. It doesn't seem very fair at all. :-/
they certainly should-live and let live i say but as a born brit im made to feel a second class citizen in the very country me and my family have given to all our lives
Hell yes! I'm not British-born, but i am a citizen. It makes me angry to see that half of the homes for OAPs (first floor flats that were sold off to council, etc) are being filled with foreigners. It's ridiculous. It seems as though asylum seekers and immigrants get first grabs at all the benefits there. But if you have lived there and worked there all your life, you practically have to give your first born child - and second - just to get any sort of compensation.
I live in the states, and its just like the illegal immigrants here. they get TONS of freebies - health care, housing, etc - but American- born citizens have TONS of red tape to go thru, and still dont get half the benefits.
Of course ,if that is not the case, you have to Wonder, if you
have been conquered, and no one informed you.
no ,the colour of your skin which you are really talking about is irrelevent.
yes i do. its just plain unfair that all immagrents..or other just walk into a council office or benefit office click their fingers (cus they cant speak english) and get given everything handed to them on a plate. disgracful.
TINKYTYLAH: if i were you,if you can write down all the EMPTY properties you can find belonging to council or housing association, and present it to your housing officer,go up to the offices everyday or phone in everyday or email everyday so they dont forget you or try to forget you. tht is wat we did we eventually got a two bed house.
