here is proof that americans will do dirty, nasty jobs. worse then picking fruit, worse then being a maid, worse then mowing the lawn, worse then being a buss boy.
heres your proof, pro illegals.
you will notice there are no illegals doing these jobs.
why do they do these jobs? because they get paid decently.
so whats stopping americans from doing the illegals jobs? for one business are going to chose people who dont get benifits and dont get paid well.
so americans get pushed out of those so called jobs that americans wont do.

I can attest that in the asparagus industy the last non illegal hired lasted 30 min. He was a high school drop out. Couldnt hack the work that an illegal girl could do for days.

Food rotted in the fields in Central CA last year because of a lack of labor to pick it.

There are plenty of farming jobs available in CA right now and they pay anywhere from $25 to $50/day.

But I repeat the question, with a 4% unemployment rate, where are all the Americans you mention, that need work? There is plenty in Central California. I would love to see some of them out there in the fields when the temperature gets up to 105 degrees in July.

So Katie, if these jobs pay so poorly that people have to go on Welfare to support themselves (like a lot of Wal-Mart employees) what is the solution? Pay a better wage to low-skilled or non-skilled workers?
Quite frankly, I don't think they deserve a better wage (hence the reason why these are low to non-skilled positions) and the retail price increases of food and commodities as a result, would price more products out of the reach of hard working skilled labor (higher earning) workers.
To me, there is no good solution to this mess, and as long as an illegal worker can come to the US and make 5-10x more a day working in the US than they can in their home country, these people are going to continue coming, whether we like it or not.
It's not that Americans won't do the jobs, it's that they won't work for such little pay.
Look...You want to get rid of illegals? Fine. You'll have to get rid of minimum wage or free trade, too. No way we can compete with the likes of China or Chile without the ultra cheap labor illegals provide.

Illegal immigrants don't take jobs that Americans don't want. They take jobs that can't be exported to CHina. Construction, Farm albor and Janitorial are the top 3 jobs illegal aliens take. Yes California's unemployment is low. Its at 5% not 4% now. the 4% is old data. If you look at the other economic data, you will find American salaries has stalled. BBC wrote an article last year stating that China's factories and illegal immigrants are responsible for this. Employers would dangle outsourcing jobs and hiring more illegal immigrants to pressure Americans to keep their salary low.
Mike Rowe's program is just that, a program. That is not real life. It is just more acceptable for the American public to have a white guy do that when they really know he does not do it for a living.
hey, i do one of the "dirty jobs" and i don't even get paid for it.
i volunteer at the marine mammal center in the marin headlands, CA. was on dirty jobs last year.
i dont think all of the "dirty jobs" are that bad- many of them people do because they love what they do.
if you feel so strongly that the jobs illegals are doing are great why don't you take one?
