Canadians can spend up to six months in the US without a visa, so long as they're not working/going to school/etc.
If that's not what you're looking for, marriage may be an option-a K1 (fiance/fiancee visa) allows you to bring the SO to the country legally, so long as you marry within 90 days of arrival, or a K3 (spousal visa) allows you to marry, live apart while the visa is being processed, and then live together in the US when the visa is approved.
Work visas are an option-some professions are eligible for a TN visa (only available to Canadians and Mexicans in certain professions.) There's also other work visas, like H1B, which allow three years, and can be renewed once.
My husband came to the US from Canada on an H1B visa, we began dating, became engaged, and got married while he was living here on an H1B visa, and after that, filed for his green card.
