How much experience do you need to apply for a skilled worker visa?

Want to migrate to Australia and have been told I need 6 years experience before I can even apply for a visa. Why if there is a shortage?

Answer:
If there is a shortage there is always THE LIST of skills that Australia needs. This is a master list that is updated twice a year. It shows what kind of trades Australia is short of.

PS your skills/degree/diploma may not be credited in Australia. You can find that while you're good enough for your country you're not good enough for Australia (and as a result you may need to take extra courses). If you're serious about going then look it up and take a few extra courses.

For what it's worth I don't want some kid (with half baked creds) doing surgery on me or anyone I know.
Because they want you to be qualified for the job. Obviously Australia is smarter than America. They wont take just anyone like America does
