A while ago...?

...i posted a question that explained that potential immigrants must score an 80% or higher on the citizenship test to enter america.

but like i also stated, most americans fail to score any higher than 60%.

so can this account for why there are so many illegal immigrants in america? and if so, do you believe that the nasalization process should be looser so we would have less border-hoppers?

if you ask me, a lot of immigrants who failed the test got frustrated with trying to learn the stuff most americans don't even know and just came here illegally.

not that i am trying to justify illegal immigration. i am just trying to propose a probable reason for illegal immigration.

thoughts? opinions?

Answer:
Its not just America

Nope, that test is for Naturalization. This comes WAY after the person has filed a visa and been accepted, then filed residency and been accepted, then has been here for the required time. By then, they should have studied up on the test and learned some english if they were planning on staying here.

We had to complete an SAT right? We had to do all those tests during school in order to pass right? We have to pass our driver's tests right? We even have to take a test now to purchase a home. We have papers that we always are filling out right?

What is wrong with them doing a little something to come here and not just invading and demanding.
there are a lot of other steps to being a citizen before you take that test. it is too bad so few americans can pass the test. maybe some of them should lose their citizenship.
Americans study this stuff when they are in High School (it's required). But as we all know, most human brains don't retain information unless it's used daily. The reason why more immigrants might know our country's history is because a big majority of them learned it later in life. I don't believe that not knowing the answers of the simple questions asked in the test is the problem. I will admit that most Americans have slacked off when it came immigration but it's today that counts and I for one am trying to make a change.
You made a really good point, its true if Americans cant make higher than a 60 then how is it expected for others to? Not that being here illegally is justified, but its a good thing to think about. =)
its a possible reason...but thats definately not the biggest reason for illegal immigration. i dont think the process should be easier. it should stay the same and i know its long, hard and takes money...but whoever completes it shows that they really do want to become a part of this great country and i admire them for that.

and the test you are talking about, it doesnt come until about 5 years after someone has legalized.5 years is plenty of time to learn facts about this country...its not rocket science.
Judging by your writing, you also failed the test, didn't you?
An immigrant does not take a citizenship test for at least 3 years after coming here LEGALLY.

The status of illegal aliens has nothing to do with taking or not taking a citizenship test. 20 million people have either entered our borders illegally or came here legally as a visitor or temporary worker and overstayed their visa.

In either case, none of these 20 million illegal aliens are eligible to take a citizenship test since one of the conditions to take a citizenship test is to be here legally in the first place.

A record number of immigrants, more than 1 million, will become U.S. citizens this year. To do so, they must pay $95 and meet certain standards: They need to have lived in the country for five years (or three, if they are married to a U.S. citizen), be of good moral character (meaning no felony convictions), be of sound mind (a judgment call) and speak and understand English (unless they are elderly or disabled).

Finally, they must pass what is generally referred to, in many different languages, as the Test -- a quiz on the basics of U.S. history and government.

PS - I took an online citizenship test and scored 100%.

This is not rocket science.
Do you not keep up with the current news. The reason so many illegals are invading is because now Mexico has outsourced their jobs to China. And in doing so, Mexico expects America to handle their new classes of poor Mexicans. Mexico a rich country in itself, but will not help it's own.
Facts are easy to remember, especially when you are trying to get something you really want. When your in school you cram for a test to you can pass, same principles apply in this case. On the subject of why Americans do not make a higher grade I think it is because they like to rewrite history to suite their needs or beliefs. We don't have to remember all that stuff 10 or 20+ years after we learn it. I think that Americans have learned to base their knowledge from personal beliefs rather than knowing facts. This case holds true on many of the debates that you see people get into whether it be immigration, abortion, politics, or religion.
Okay, so my question is, why would Americans be taking the citizenship test? And if they were - which I truly have doubts about - why would it be wrong to have one standard for citizens and another for non-citizens? The likely reason for illegal immigration is that the people immigrating illegally have no respect for this country - our people, our laws, or anything else - and they are probably predisposed to criminal activity in whatever country they're in.
