The majority of hispanics in the region are from Mexico. So it would be rational to assume a hispanic person you see is from Mexico.
If you happen to be in Florida then the majority of hispanic people you will see will be from Cuba.
I realize that you are insinuating that white people are somehow racist yet you seem to be comfortable with painting all white people with a broad stroke.
Speaking for my people I can honestly say that we do not care where you are from.

Well, we don't all think that, but a reason it happens so often is because there are many, many Mexicans in the Southwestern US.

We don't. But where I live (Southern California), that is what the preponderance of brown folks are, so it's not an unreasonable assumption around here.

I am a white person from southern California and my best friend in high school was a Hispanic. BUT she wasn't Mexican... she was Spanish -- from Spain. Wonderful person by the way... ;-) And my neighbor is Hispanic too -- from Argentina !!

I was thinking awhile back that it would be great to have a stand up comedy about four races. Each race would have four of that race. So, you would have about 16 people IE four of each race letting it all hang out. Like, why is a Hispanic back wet. Better yet, why do they call white people crackers. I really got a kicked out of the David Chapel show when he did the black kkk member. That was some really great work, about dies watching it thou. I do wish he would keep doing what he does best thou. Making people laugh, thou he would need to change his jokes because he said he was tired of doing race jokes.

You are correct to point out the implicit racism there. Of course, some nit pickers might mention that your labeling ALL the white people from an entire region as ignorant racists might possibly be misconstrued as being racist against white southerners. Of course they have the misfortune of residing in "red neck" country, so are expected to enjoy being the butt of jokes. Modern equivalent of Polock jokes or blonde jokes. Yes, it's ignorant for them to consider all hispanics Mexican. But, it just could be that 90% or more of the hispanics they deal and interact with ARE Mexican.
