I'm a US citizen, can my Indian mother come here and live in the US?

I am an US citizen currently residing in Germany. I plan to move to the US in the next 2 years. My mother is a senior citizen with an Indian passport. I would like her to move with me to the US so I can take care of her. Is this possible? Is there any visa available for such cases? Please let me know.

Answer:
I am sure you can if you can prove that you can take care of her or that she has her own money to do so. I would call the US embassy in Germany and find out more info.
Yes, Just go to the US Embassy and they will give you the proper forms needed. Very good planning to bring this up 2 yrs before you move, must wait until the last minute and get nothing but heart breaks. Good Luck :)
Of course it can be done.

With you being an American citizen, you can fairly easily sponser your mother to come here to live. Notice that I did say fairly, not very.

A US consulate in Germany would give you all of the forms and information you would need to get this done.

One option might be in order to start things going earlier, if you have a direct relative living in the US currently, maybe a brother or an adult child, and they are also US citizens, they can start the process earlier than you may be able to. Living in Germany, it might be a bit tough for you to sponser your mother to come to the US to live when you are not currently living in the US.

Please get in touch with the US State Department and they will help you out. Don't get discouraged if it seems like a lot of paperwork. And please don't be tempted to get her a 6 month tourist visa and have her just overstay. If there is a legitimate medical condition, they may extend it if a doctor says she shouldn't fly home, but there are better, more ethical, maybe not moral but ethical, ways to do it.
Yes, of course you can do this. A US citizen can petition for immigration for a parent. Here is more information:

Since you live in Germany presently, you will be able to file the petition where you are rather than have to send it back to the US, which will take a LOT longer. Your mother will also be able to receive her visa at the nearest immigrant-visa-issuing post in Germany, or in India, as you prefer.

Check with the nearest US consulate to find where you can get the forms you need, and where to file them.
