Well considering Mexico oil is sludge oil and is harder, and takes longer to process, who'd really care except Cheney. Then you'll have to deal with him, and his Halliburton - KBR private contractors. Which btw doesn't mean oil contractors, but a special unit force of body guards, and "police force". Go ahead... piss Cheney off since Mexico's deal was with him.
We already own the Mexican oil. (Bought and paid for decades ago, and as another answer said it is third rate crude at best.)
As far as Venezuela is concerned, the amount and quality of their exports are not significant enough to make much of a difference to America or China.
I think that now in the 21st century we can find a better energy source than the gasoline engine.We shouldn't be dependent on any other country for anything.
I don't see Mexico doing this, because China is on the other side of the world, so its a better business to sell the oil to the US.
On the other hand, Venezuela might do this on political interest rather than economics, or if the US imposes an embargo to Venezuela as it has done to Cuba. This would hurt Venezuela's economy far worse than the US'.
I don't see this happening anytime soon, its not in either countries interest, Chavez may insult Bush all he wants, but without Bush buying oil, Chavez would be the president of a ruined country.
Venezuela can do it. And we can purchase it from other countries.
Mexico can NOT. Mexican oil is now US property. They asked for massive loans after the "Tequila financial crisis" with oil as a collateral.
They didn't paid, so now the oil is ours.
I heard China was going to get oil from Russia, and they were going to also dig somewhere in the ocean. That having been said, don't you think we should get our own oil from within our own country? otherwise we will be using the rickshaws.
