There is a process existing for those who wish to become citizens if they have been here legally for 5 years, 3 if they married an american citizen.
I think the process is a good thing, it's important to know what they ask for there if you wish to become a citizen, it's a good way to prove your English too. Citizenship should never be automatic when it comes to foreigners and I'm one myself.

No they should not be granted automatic citizenship! My Grandparents came to this country through Ellis Island! They Learned English and they took the Constitutional Test and they became proud Americans! It was good enough for the former generations and it is good enough for the illegals! If a person wants to be an American they need to take the test and swear allegiance to America!
