If the government had the politcal will to enforce the current laws against employers who hire illegals AND we sealed the border (north and south) .And we eliminated the incentives for illegals to come here such as healthcare, entitlements for children, ediucation, and the granting of citizenship to their offspring born in the USA AKA anchor babies then the effect would be that the illegals for the most part would deport themselves as there would be no advantage in staying.
Then we could build an effective TEMPORARY guest worker program that did not allow family members to stay...this would allow certain industries such as west coast agriculture, construction, and restaurant industry to have access to the labor pool they complain is not available among the USA citizenry.
I am ALL FOR LEGAL immigration as I have family members who were former HB-1. The greatest threat is a large influx of people who do not assimilate into the ideals and principles of their host country...just ask France or the UK.

They won't have social security benefits and will not be able to legally purchase firearms.
I think most of them will stay in the situation they put themself in, a sort of limbo, while we try to find a solution to the problem going forward.
They are in shadows because they broke the law, just like anyone else who broke the law and doesn't want to be caught. The are on the list for a complete solution, but they are NOT the first priority of business, and they did it to themselves.
Hopefully they will be deported. Amnesty is not an option. Not again. It's been given twice and all we get out of it are more illegals crossing our borders on both ends. Do I think they will all go back to Mexico? No. Do I think this bill would have brought them all forward? No. We need to enforce our existing laws as they stand. No more amnesty.

I like Tom Tancredo's plan. You cut the welfare benefits, cut the healthcare benefits, require the hospitals to report them to the authorities anytime they want to get freebies, change the anchor babies laws, punish large coorporations with huge fines if they get caught hiring illegals. If you cut their hope for amnesty ( they come here hoping one day amnesty will happen), cut their freebies (food, shelter heathcare) and their job...what do you think they will do? Maybe then, our huge deficit will stop growing.
They will all go to work and continue sending money home to their families in Mexico and other Latin and South American countries and to all the other countries around the world having representative illegal immigrants living and working amongst us.
If amnesty is not granted nothing will change.
If amnesty is granted it will be a disaster because many legal immigrants will feel as if they just wasted time all these years working hard and abiding by the law. I know I would.
However, if they are given the opportunity to not be prosecuted and provided with an opportunity to do it legally, I think many (not all) will go for it.

They should be deported and any businesses that are caught employing them should receive stiff fines and possible criminal charges for harboring the illegals. If you take away the jobs, most of them will go back to Mexico.

There hasn't been an amnesty in a while and what has happened lately? More and more immigrants are coming in. Immigration laws, to be honest, for the most part, are useless. I mean, to be honest the more immgration laws there are, the more ways to go around them.
What happend to our own citizen rights, u.s has flushed them down the toilet..seems like anyone can come in and take advantage of this nation. i know guys that are born and raised in the u.s and are unemployed, they have been looking for work for months and cant find nothing because of all the low wages or over population of this country. this needs to stop now..im mexican american by the way
They will continue to suck the US dry , a lot less than if amnesty is granted though as we will not have to give them the rights that all of our citizens have earned.Enter legally and wait patiently as all their predecesors have...

Cut the FREEBIES` OUT , and there will be no reason for them to stay here . Document them each time they apply for anything free. Create a National Registry of Americans Social Security Numbers , Drivers License Numbers , and any other form of Identification the Illegals can forge or steal. Anytime one applys for a Freebie of any kind , match the Numbers with the Birth Certificate of the person they are claiming to be ? No Match , No Stay ! Sending them back bus loads at a time will be much less expensive than paying their bills for them and their offspring for the next century !
