Both Reps and Dems are trying to allow illegal aliens to become citizens or at least gain legal status. Latinos will eventually be the majority population in the US, and they both want the Latino vote. Many Reps are wavering because they're listening to their constituents who want the law enforced, which means illegals should go home, but some Reps still support the bill, especially John McCain.
Mainly it was Dems who voted down the amendment that said criminal aliens should be deported. They limited the deportation to just some gang memebers and sex offenders. The amendment said anybody a judge has already issued a deportation notice on must go, as well as all those convicted of crimes. Dems know that in the past, a majority of immigrants have voted Democratic.

The government wants you to be confused; that way they can slip anything into law while you are trying to figure it out.
I think, the citizens need to voice against amnesty. We need to let politicians know that we(Citizens) are the in charge. This illegal aliens are criminals and felons and need to be punished for breaking the law. Also, Is the "US citizenship" is on sale so anyone can take.
First you must understand the beast. A Democracy can not truly represent the people with a two party system. We are probably the only democracy with just two.Wigs or Tory, the interest of the rich over the poor. one voice in Washington unfortunately not ours ,We The People that is. If you you confused how our government works you must be under 50 years old.
There's a bigger issue here than just illegal aliens.The leaders of the countries in the US, S. America and Canada want to combine the countries and have unlimited trade and immigration for all these countries(like what they did in Europe)
