Most Americans support immigration reform. When will you get on board?
However, the poll found a significant division among opponents of the immigration plan. About 28 percent said they were opposed because it did too much to help illegal immigrants, but 15 percent said they were opposed because it did too little.
So while much of the opposition to the bill has come from those who believe it is too soft on illegal immigration, the poll found that 45 percent of Americans either support the bill or want it to be more immigrant-friendly, compared to 28 percent who feel it's already too immigrant-friendly.
A separate Bloomberg poll also supports this contention.
Answer:
i would not believe anything in a Bloomberg poll for Bloomberg is a media owner for one thing. I will get on board for reform to lessen the lines for those that came here through legal means, i will not support any bill that offers amnesty and just so you know the fine you say will be imposed by this bill is a joke it is already on the books if you cross the border illegal then you are subject to a 10,000 dollar fine and time in jail until you support the laws already in effect do not ask to get around those laws with new ones that benefit big business and further destorys the lives of millions of american citizens. we the people should agree if this bill passes that we shall not pay another dime to the federal government in taxes and let them pay for the war and health care for illegals and their breaks to big business ect on their own after all since you say you can not deport 12-20 million illegals you certainly can not jail 260 million legal citizens
No those numbers were taken out of context. Most people are for doing something about the reform. Not that they support it.
No and I am curious as to when 30 became greater than 47.
naw..illegals go home...now
Sorry, dude, I'm not a politician nor am I an activist. I would support any good cause provided they're a sound good cause. Good enough, yes?
The first Mexicans to become part of the United States never crossed any border. Instead, the border crossed them.
Spanish-speaking people have lived in North America since the Spaniards colonized Mexico in the sixteenth century, and Mexicans have always played a crucial role in the continent's culture and history. Mexican culture brought many firsts to North America: The first Thanksgiving took place in either New Mexico or El Paso; the first university in North America was founded in Mexico City; the first printing press on the continent arrived in Mexico in 1538, more than a century before printing came to New England.
In 1846, everything changed. War broke out between the U.S. and Mexico over the U.S. annexation of Texas. Mexico was defeated, and in 1848 the two nations signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This treaty gave the victorious nation an enormous amount of land, including what would later become the states of California and Texas, as well as parts of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada, in exchange for a token payment of $15 million.
One more important piece of land changed hands in 1854, when the U.S. bought what is now southern Arizona and New Mexico from the Mexican government for $10 million. This land deal, known as the Gadsden Purchase, brought the U.S. a much-coveted railroad route, and helped open the West to further expansion.
With two strokes of a pen, the larger nation had expanded its size by one-third. And almost overnight, tens of thousands of Mexican citizens had become residents of the United States.
A migrant worker program would be ok. We need to eliminate the backdoor entries into this country, a side door would be ok.
You must looking at the figures upside down,47 % do not want that immigration bill and 19 % do not know enough to make a decision,if you're going to use figures at least get them right, this is as bad as Ted Kennedy standing in front of a stack of boxes which he said were a million signatures for amnesty, they found out later by his own supporters that the boxes were empty
I'll get on board whe I see the government do what they promised and secure the border. WHERE'S THE FENCE?
I wont be getting on board, sorry.
and landmines..
I will get on board when the following occurs:
Our border and coastlines are secured.
Then, I will support increasing penalties to all employers of illegals to an amount to make hiring illegal aliens prohibitive.
Then, I will support legislation that repeals anchor baby laws, which was not addressed by the 14th Amendment which assured citizenship for the recently freed slaves.
Then, I will be on board for a systematic sweep of the US to locate, detain and deport illegal aliens and I will support the measures to fund the program.
The 'thens' do not have to be any particular order or could be conducted simultaneously.
I am pro-legal immigration..anti-illegal alien.
Immigrants are legal and are not the problem.
DOn't pick Annakasia. She is right, but the illegal immigrants don't realize the Mexicans that are here are different to those who came here. THe AMericans that were here before the 1900's evolve to a different people than the Mexicans. THey are American first. The culture of the Mexican Americans that lived a long time evolve towards a different culture thatn the ones in Mexico. Do people believe the Mexicans in Mexico are the same people as the ones in Mexico in the 1800's.
I support what is right. I could care less if all of america wanted to legalize murder, I wouldnt 'get on board'.
Yes, most americans support a reforma...that do not include any form of amnesty
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
Immigration reform does not mean amnesty, it means things like enforcing our border, serious fines and penalties for employers who break immigration laws, no government assistance, no special treatment, worker programs, stopping visa abuse, and other immigration issues. Immigration reform encompasses a large range of issues and as most every poll shows Americans do NOT favor amnesty in any form but they do support border enforcement.
Yes reform like securing borders, screening immigrants, speeding up the process
