If a person is in the process of applying for citizenship (through marriage), what happens if they divorce?
Answer:
I believe if she divorces, she will have to go back to her own country.
this depends on where she is from. when u obtain a green card for 7 years pay your taxes etc... all you have to do is go and take the test to get your citizenship.
Yes, she will have to start all over or might even lose the citizenship.
Is her green card still conditional?
I'm assuming that the green card is the permanent one not the conditional one. If this is the case, then your friend will probably have to wait a few more years until she can petition herself for citizenship.
If you're married to a U.S. citizen, the wait time to petition for citizenship is shorter. If you're not, then it's a couple of years more. However, there's nothing she can do if the green card is conditional.
If the green card is still conditional, she'll have to prove that the marriage was in good faith, etc. in order to get her permanent green card w/ restrictions taken off. Five years after that, she can petition herself for a green card.
