What do Americans think of Iranians?

I am going to live in america in a year's time. I am an iranian, who lived in UK for 7 years. I am getting my green card through my husband who is american-born citizen ( with iranian parents) and my 1 year old child. I love socialising with people, but I am worried what americans think of iranians in general. The state we're gonna move into is California. Do you think I'll have a problem socializing and making friends with americans?

Answer:
Americans are generally friendly.

We like the Iranian people.

We are concerned about Iran's leader.

WELCOME!
No, most people know it's the idiots in power/government that keep us all on the brink of war.
Califorina is much more liberal and open minded than many states.
I worked for a summer in High school for and Iranian couple, they were quite nice and seemed to get on fine. Please accept my welcome to America as I sit in Iraq.
i hope you'll do fine =] cheers! good luck
For the most part, you should have no problem, especially in California. You'll need to be careful, though; there are nutcases, radicals, and haters in any group.
You should be alright. I think there's some animosity towards Iranians, but California has such a wide mix of ethnicities that people really have to have a lot of time on their hands in order to concern themselves that much with a particular group.
just remember that most of Americans do not act like Californians.
you need to b carefull in revealing yr identity of being an iranian especially in these days...
California isnt real America so you should do well there or in New York....America has a serious problem with arabs in general right now..if you just stay in a left coast state or Detroit you will be fine....
You should do fine in California, don't worry.
For future reference, keep New York City, Seattle, Portland (OR), Washington D.C. and Miami in mind -- those places should also be friendly environments for you.

Do stay away from the Deep South, Texas, and the Southwest regions- those regions are populated by very ignorant, hateful and angry people. Blacks and Latinos (U.S. born, not immigrants) have been living in those regions for a very long time and they are still detested, so it's unlikely they'll warm up to an Iranian.

But to answer your question "What do Americans think of Iranians?" -- most Americans hate Iranians, as they do most people. They generally look down on people from other countries and assume everyone else should be like them. It's unlikely you'll make American friends. Chances are the friends you'll make in California are fellow Iranians.

(I figured I would get more than one "thumb downs"; people don't like reading the truth)
First of all, ignore Karkondrite's ignorant jabbering.

Second, most Americans have never met an Iranian, Iraqi, Palestinian, or any other Southwest Asian, so all they know is what they hear and see on the controlled media here.

If you are as articulate and intelligent in person as you seem to be here you will go a long way toward dispelling a lot of myths about our idiotic president's "axis of evil."

You'll find that most Americans are very friendly, even in the South, and are always curious to meet people from distant lands. California is not typical of most of America however, so don't judge the rest of us by that crew.

You will find millions of illegal immigrants in Cali, however, mostly from mexico and Central America. These are probably more of a threat than the average American, due to the large number of "latin" drug gangs and other thieves. Avoid them when you can.

If at all possible, school your child at home and don't buy a television.

Welcome...
I don't have anything against Iranians but I don't like your president. Since you say you don't even look middle eastern, you probably don't have anything to worry about anyway.
