European Visa Requirement for Non-US Citizen?
I am a military dependent (spouse) of a USAF. I am not a US Citizen but i am a Resident card holder. We are currently stationed in Germany and are looking forward travelling around europe , my concern is would i need a visa if i go to nearby countries? or my green card will do? aside from that i also hold a sofa visa stamp from germany. Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks!
Answer:
It all depends on two thigs:
(1) Your present country of citizenship
and
(2) where in Europe you are planning to visit?
If you are traveling to any country in the EU (except the United Kingdom and Ireland) and are already in Germany, than you will probably not need a visa since you are already physically in the Schengen Zone. The UK, Ireland and most new EU members since 2004 are not part of this Zone, so you will most likely need to have a passport (and visa depending on your present nationality). Green Cards are normally not an acceptable form of identification for foreign nationals in Europe, so you should always have you passport on hand.
A green card is not going to open you the doors of the whole world. You need a passport and check the immigration rules of the country you want to visit. It also depends on the country of your citizenship.
