As Britain is a christian country are there to many mosques? and should we stop more being built now?

this is answers, and this is just a question, dont throw dummies out, just answer honestly, if you can.

Answer:
You may complain about Muslim reactionaries but there is one thing you can say for sure and that is that they are religious.we like to think we are a Christian country, but when did you last go to church other than for Baptisms, Weddings and funerals...I'm ashamed to say a long time ago...so its the same with everything, if you don't use it you lose it...many Churches in high immigrant areas were unused and were sold to make into Mosques, immigrant population grows, so need bigger Mosque...stands to reason. Why would you want to stop them. This is a free country you know...
I suppose you've got no objection to churches being built in Africa, India etc?
to be honest i don't know or really care if it is a christian country and if i had my way i would knock every place of religious worship down and replace them with hospitals, hospices etc
I think we shud defo stop buildin em...keep it Christian!
I don't think that you should stop building them YET. I think that Arab states should be requested to build churches and if they refuse ONLY THEN should mosques be stopped. What kind of justice is that which says Muslims can build whatever the hell they want in non-Muslim states but in a Muslim state one is arrested if they are even caught with a bible.
They should be burnt to the ground churches wouldn`t be allowed in their countrys.
I thought it was a multi-faith country oh well you learn something new every day on here!
Britain isn't a christian Country!

The Royal family are christian, and in the past it has been the rule that we should follow the religeon of the crown. If you feel that this should be so then consider whether you would be happy to change religeon to Catholic or Judaismn should the Queen decide to!

Britain is a great country which other people want to come to because it IS a land of oppertunity where by law we are not allowed to discriminate against anybody. You are able to have all the freedome you have because other people have allowed you to do so... much like we should be now for muslims.

I am a white british christian not that it should make any difference!
If these so called muslims want more mosques the answer is simple ,return to the lands of the prophet there are plenty of them there.Seriously though we as a nation are to sensitive to the needs of ethnic origin of our citizens and not paying attention to the needs of the indigenous populace. If they want a mosque let them give up the vipers within Islam who do nothing for real moslems everywhere.Oh and by the way this is legally a christian country as we have a government established church ,actually two c.of.e. for England and C.of.Sc for the jocks.
Historically Britiain is a Christian nation with a strong Christian heritage. But in recent decades this has largely been lost.

Genuine Christianity is this: 1) Realize that you have broken God's laws - we have all been greedy, stolen, lied, had lust, etc... 2) You must realize the penaly for our wrongdoings is eternal separation from God (Hell) 3) You must realize Jesus died on the cross to suffer and pay the penalty for all of our wrongdoings. 4) We must all accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour, trusting him to come into our lives and forgive our wrongdoings.

When we accept Christ he comes into our lives and we experience a living Christianity.

But the "Christianity" we often see in Britian (and USA) is not this. Rather people just go to church. They think they are good, earning their way to heaven. Going to church does not make one Christian anymore than being in a garage makes you a car. So the Christianity we often see in Britain is in fact dead and many churches are virtually abandoned.

On top of this, Hinduistic views have become popular in the west, stating that all religions are the same.

With churches adhering to a false empty Christianity, what defense does Britain have to other religions taking over? None.

Britain and the USA need a Christian revival and a return to belief in Christ not as just a good teacher, but as our saviour and our Lord. Jesus said "I am the way and the truth and the Life and no one comes to the father except through me."
YES! yes! on both counts
no places of worship other than christain should be allowed.in britain, there should be a law passed to close all other places right now
Britain is only a Christian country in the sense that our monarch is the head of the state church, which happens to be a Christian church.

The reality is that church attendance in this country has been declining steadily over the last century to the point where the majority of people in this country describe themselves as "not religious".

Any building, such as a mosque, should be built based on the demand for the service it supplies. You wouldn't build a large library or bus depot in a small village.

If muslims in this country wish to express their faith by going to a local mosque but demand outstrips supply, then surely more mosques should be built.

Telling muslims that they're not allowed to have any more mosques because this is a Christian country is outrageous. Freedom of religion should be a cornerstone of any civilised society.
It is a multi-faith nation, hence we have churches, temples, synagogues, mosques etc etc and long may it continue.
Even if it was a Christian country (the point to the contrary having been made) why should the number of mosques be of any importance? Is it the case that Christians should be actively opposing a growing Muslim community? Are you suggesting that it is the moral perogative of Christians to fight against Islam? I certainly think not.

Christianity is a response to Christ through thought, word and deed; it is not a form of ideological authoritarianism. In fighting back those who would look at God slightly differently to ourselves, we would be just as guilty of this offence as the very people we were fighting against.
I think they've built enough mosques and should be stopped
While it is true that Britain is a Christian country, only about 7.5 per cent of us actually go to church and then possibly only for Christenings, Weddings and Funerals.

In London, about one third to a half of Londoners go to church at Easter and Christmas. Indeed, Southwark Cathdral was so over filled, they actually had to hold two Christmas services 2006.

The ancient cathdral at Winchester is crammed to bursting point at Christmas. They do a candle lit midnight mass on Christmas Eve. The congregation have to stand for about four hours in the Nave of the Cathdral. As the service starts, members of the congregation begin lighting their hand held candles from the back of the Nave so that the light eventually reaches the High Altar.

Mosques in UK. There are plenty and always have been. I was born in London in 1941 and there was a Mosque near where I lived.

In recent years more Mosques have been built. These very beautiful buildings add richness and grace to our Capital City. I would not want it any other way.

The Great Mosque in Regent's Park is the most magnificent Mosque. It was built by Royal Command of our late sovereign, His Majesty King George VI, the wartime leader of Britain. He gave the land for the Mosque which he owned, in exchange for a similiar sized plot of land in the ancient Muslim City of Baghdad. We now have an Anglican Church there and British Muslims and Muslims from all over the world can come to London and go to the Great Mosque at Regent's Park.

The majority of the British people wish to live in a muliti cultural and multi faith country, based upon our Liberal Democracy and a Secular State. We are slowly working our muddled way towards this goal. It takes time, but we're getting there.

The British have enjoyed freedom of religion for many centuries. So let's have more Mosques, if that's what the people want. It's their free choice.

HRH Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, has already let it be known that when he becomes King, he wishes to have the title "Defender of the Faiths". This will mean that for the first time a King of England will support not just the Protestant faith of the majority of the people, but also other faiths and cults too.

Why not?

Let's go forward together and with God's good grace, build the kind of Britain which we can all love.
But is Britain a Christian country - I mean, in the sense of people actually going to churches?

If people want to go to mosques instead, why not? Mosques have to apply for planning permission and raise funds from their own people, just like any other organisation. They have no special advantages over churches, synagogues, temples, whatever.
I would stop importing muslims, and try to export as many as possible. Hopefully the problem will take care of it self there after.
Well, i think , if your country accepts muslims as immigrants, it´s acceptable, if they pay by themselves, to let them built enough religions centers (of course, if they don´t use them to plan anything negative against others).
I think there should definitely be a quota- and they should be built with the local architecture in mind. This is United Kingdom NOT United Emirates- there is a major difference.
Britain is as much 'christian' as anything else. Anyone is free to practice any religion as long as they don't interfere with other people's rights. Anyone is free to build on their land, subject to planning permission, would it be a mosque or a christian church or a residential house. If someone is not happy with this freedom, they should vote BNP or similar party into parliament so they change the order of things.

Despite the fact that majority of the British people consider themselves Christian, only a minority would visit the church on a regular basis - not really our favourite pastime any more. This is a little bit different for the Muslim population, where a higher percentage of people would attend the mosque regularly. So why should we be surprised if there are quite a few of them around, there must be a demand for them??
More christian - or more free country Britain is?
We threw out religious intolerance with women's sufferage and iron underpants.

I would personally prefer that instead of building churches, we built schools, research institutions and places of learning where you get to learn about things that actually exist. But that's just me.
I thaught Christians were tolerant, So I would have thaught that a Christian country would tolerate as many mosques as others want to build.
Your question is fundamentally flawed. Go and look at the 2001 Census.
As an atheist myself, would you propose that the christians in this country (which are dwindling) try and stop me practising my atheism? You don't even know how we do so, do you? You think we eat babies and read the Guardian.
Come back when you have a more tangible question.
Britain should have more mosques, where I live there are too many churches...and you feel intimidated on a Sunday morning walking to the bus stop with those annoying bells ringing down.

Give me a Muezzin any day...Our ones have at least rhythm.

Afterall you owe more mosques for the ones you've bombed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Yes we should stop them from being built and we should also close some. Muslim fanatics use them as their meeting places .And, as for Moslem's being religious, in my opinion they are far too fanatical for their own or anyone Else's good. too blinkered and single minded they dont show anyone elses beliefs any respect at all.
The number of mosques befits the multi-faith side of Britain. People object to them being built, but they are really only built in majorly Muslim areas. To listen to some people talking, you would think mosques were going up like Tesco convenience stores.
Is it a christian country ?

Wow - really - I thought it was supposed to be multi-cultural and religiously tolerant - since the days of the English Civil war.

So what limits do you propose in your Orwellian state religion.

Why can't people build whatever temples, monastaries, churches, mosques, shopping malls, private gyms, football stadia that they like - why is a mosque any more - less offnsive than a football ground or golf club?

You may not be relegious or you may be big into churches - me I like community halls and worship socialising on a sunday - I dislke your preferences but I will fight any man who would take them away from you - However, I oppose all prejudices and the oppression of choice.

Each to his own as long as he keeps it there
