Do you think immigrants and asylum seekers.?
Answer:
yep!
I know that we are a nice country which people want to move into but don't you think it is easy for them to take it for granted?
I do not have a problem with immigrants and asylum seekers which come here and work but the people that come here an expect the government to just lok after them!ludacris!
There are enough english people doing this for anybody else to do it aswell!
don't you agree?
How can these people come into our country and not understand the language!
xxx
I think this is a really good idea which would help immigrants and the rest of the population immensely!
Yes I do, even if it is very basic, it will help them settle in quicker if nothing else.
Be prepared for the nasty rascist opinions based on crap people have read in the Sun!
Yes, because that'll help the immigrants to integrate themselves in society. Sometimes the different language creates problems and it's better if they speak at least a basic level of English
yes at least the basics
YES and live by our laws.
It is already a requirement before being granted citizenship, and shortly also for permanent residence, that you pass a nonsensical test on "Life in the UK", which includes a vertain level of English.
Of course, people come to the UK on various visas, just as we go to other countries, without being able to speak the language, and may then claim asylum, as is their right; unfortunately, the government has abolished free English classes for asylum-seekers, so inievitably when people are granted a positive decision, they may not have much English - but they are not granted Indefinite Leave to Remain.
Hope this helps
Yes for immigrants. No for asylum seekers. The difference is that an immigrant wishes to come here to work, and I do not see them contributing much to society here if they can not speak English.
The only exception I would make about not speaking English is if they are to live in Wales where they can learn to speak Welsh instead!
As for asylum seekers, the real ones are here to flee persecution. Fine, get them to learn English while they are here, but I do not think you can force them to learn it before getting here. If you had ever talked to a 'real' asylum seeker, you would understand.
I do think though that if you are found guilty of a serious crime, you should be deported if you are not a citizen. Those immigrants who do not become citizens and asylum seekers are here to live under our laws. If they can not respect that, then no matter what the situation is like where they came from, they should be deported.
The e.u. has made sure that cant be applied how many brits speak german french spanish etc and live and work abroad.
YES DEFINATELY as the same rule applies if you go to their countries where there are no free rides at all!
Who cares?? The country fell long ago. Last Englishman to leave turn the lights out.
We can all meet up in Oz or New Zealand or any other place we annexed and have ended up better than here
How to sort it out:
Start shooting illegal immigrants on sight (dress it up as "bird flu prevention measures" or something).
Refuse entry to anyone that cannot speak fluent English.
Only allow entry to refugees escaping persecution from neighbouring countries.
Definately.
Yes, it could be a great idea! Or at least, when they arrive to establish an obligatory English course for them.
I am Mexican and lived in Germany 8 years, it is difficult and confusing enough when one speak the language and have to adapt himself and understand the new culture (we are not educated with the same ideas, customs, etc. in all the countries). I think it would help to avoid misunderstandings.
Absolutely- a better idea would be limit immigrants to only those who could positively contribute to society- not some no skill moron on the run from the law.
when the british people went all over the world colonising they never bothered to speak the lingo of there colonies
bored something, what about the English people who do not speak fluent English correctly, e.g. your grammar structures? should their citizenship be taken off them?
Yes defiantly. whats the point in being here if you cant interact with the indigenous population. it just results in segregation leading to race hate.
no, cos if they could speak english they would be made to work and wouldn't be offered council flats.
yes if theyre gonna ponce from us at least speak our language and learn our ways of living!
yes
Should be Mandatory, to stay in the UK, in no way should you have to conform to their inadequacies.
Absolutely. english is thewidespread and official language of Britain, and by speaking it, they will be able to integrate easier.
