What does the Spanish language/culture have to do with illegal immigration?
When I see people complaining, for instance about people speaking Spanish or public things being printed/recorded in Spanish as well as English, or cultural aspects of Latin America in general, I can only suspect racism.
Most hispanics DO learn english, and even the ones that don't as well, their children certainly do. The same is true of any first/second generation immigrant, be it Chinese, Ethiopian, whatever.
America is a melting pot of culture, but no one seems to have any beefs with other cultures speaking their parent languages amongst themselves, having distinct ethnic neighborhoods, or GOD FORBID having a shred of pride for their ethnic heritage, such as Irish celebrating St. Patrick's Day.
The US Census predicts that by 2050, 24% of americans will be of hispanic ethnic background.

It isn't my hot spot (schools are) however there is a culture shock when people move to a different culture. That is why the immigrants want to bring theirs with them. For those who never moved and STILL have their culture change so quickly they might as well have moved, there seems no where THEY can have the comfort the immigrants have in their pretty much 'immigrant only' enclaves. Can you imagine the hew and cry if there were ever a 'no immigrant here' enclave?
Social strains have ALWAYS been part of what countries look at in regulating immigration rates. Look at Mexico, where to protect its workers, foreigners can't work unless they speak fluent Spanish.
(They also can never hold any public office.)
We are a melting pot but that is supposed to be of a MYRIAD of cultures so that the distinct 'American' blend culture predominates and itself changes slowly enough to be comfortable for those who live here - who immigration laws are supposed to protect. That is not what we have today.
Note that the last time a huge influx of immigrants came in a short time, during the 'great wave', it led to restrictive immigration laws that both let the country catch its breath and led to development of our middle class society due to less labor chasing the jobs. Conversely, this excess of immigration, as well as being a huge part of the failure of our schools and health care, will/does put too many people chasing the jobs which is destroying the middle class, and pushing the lower middle class into poverty.
Try going to any other country in the world to live and see how well you are treated if you refuse to learn the language. We are far too accommodating with a group of people that are a drain on our society. The least they can do is assimilate into our culture. I refuse to help anyone who's first action in this country is to break our laws.
I don't speak spanish, I find it really annoying when I call a place I get this crap push 1 for x, 2 for b so on. Or my tax dollars are being used to provide laws, etc in more than 1 language. If you are not interested in knowing English stay home (if you want to work here). And I don't see the melting pot working quite the same as it did in the past.
All I can say is, Americans thinks they're too superior to learn another language... kinda sad.
I get angry when any one speaks a foreign language in a public place unless you are in an ethnic neighborhood IE little Italy, Chinatown, etc. furthermore if you want to fly your Mexican or Cuban flag than go back to your respective country's and Puerto Rico just needs to realize that they are a part of this country, not their own little country but a U.S. territory
that's right, it's about money. we Americans are tired of having to pay to have everything printed in other languages. i buy my kid a birthday present and i go to read the instructions it has other languages on it. but i can't find the English. we have to pay with our tax dollars for this printing. i don't care where they come from. if your going to come here then at least have the decency to learn English. read the 14th amendment. assimilate or get out.

Here's the deal. Mexico has declared war on the USA by encouraging a massive invasion through our southern border. We've got people waving the Mexican rag in American streets and telling us how proud they are of that failed nation, even though they ran from it. We've got the National Council of La Racists helping write American law. And we have the aztlan weenies trying to tell us this is really "their" land.
And you think we're going to ignore that just because the invaders and their apologists call us racist? Not a chance...

If most Hipanics learn English why do the automated attendants give the option of speaking in Spanish? Why is nearly every sign in my town bilingual?
This isn't about preserving (or not preserving) the culture, it's about coming to a country where the predominant language is English. In fact, the lingua franca of the WORLD is English, so why is it too much to ask for everyone to learn the predominant language of the country in which one resides? The language barrier just further exacerbates the already volatile immigration matter. My contention is that if the Hispanics who have come here - legally or otherwise - could converse fluently in English, then immigration wouldn't be the hot topic that it is.
The Spanish language is whats exclusivley spoken by a large percentage of the illegal invaders.
The culture of the illegal invaders are the reason they fled their country of origin. That culture includes rampant political corruption, little economic opportunity, lack of respect for education, overbreeding with no means of support for children etc, etc, etc.
Other cultures don't have the sheer numbers violating our immigration laws.

Yes Americans should be upset if things are printed in Spanish. What about all the other immigrants who came to the US?? You don't see things printed in German, French, Italian, etc. Why -- because they learned to speak English!

Most Hispanics DO NOT learn English -- that is why we have things printed in both English and Spanish!!! When you call a business or financial institution you have to Press 1 for English or 2 for Spanish!! If most Hispanics knew English would we have a need for that?? NOPE
Yes America is a melting pot. But all the other immigrants that came to the US "to get a better life" went through the legal process, became US Citizens and learned to speak English!!! Most Hispanics do not!!
