Why isn't Mexico able to overcome poverty ?
Answer:
Greed and selfishness by many in power
Dependency
The Problem with Dependency?
" I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them 'in' poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I traveled much, and I observed in different countries that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less that was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.

To correct--educate them, make any aid given 100% accountable for, Instill values.
corruption in their governmet police forces and to a certain extent their military, They don't get paid much so Bribes get things done
Because all those in Mexico that wants to work runs to USA.The lazy ones stays there.
Its will remains where it is
Mexico has the 13th largest economy in the world, they are by no means in poverty
An act of civil war against their govt. We need to stop giving them anything.
Mexico will "NEVER" overcome this problem, due to the cartels, people seem to think that Mexico actually have a working gov't, no, the cartels run the show and they decide who does what, when, where, and how, and thye do not even care about the why part, because the why part is left for them, because they can. In Mexico they live by the golden rule, who ever has the gold rules....
Each person who answered above had a little piece of the whole truth.
I both concur and would beg to differ from Darlene, though something in which she says is true. Yes, there is a talent drain from Mexico. However, I would not conclude that those who stay are the lazy ones. This answer is unfair to all those who are diligently working in the jobs that exist in their economy. It also doesn't account for those who may simply make do with less, or may live off the inheritance of those who profitted from slavery or servitude of the peons on the haciendas. Then there is, as have mention some, the drug cartels and the corruption.
However, are there not gangs who run drugs in the USA and other countries? Are there not lazy people in the US, the UK, and elsewhere? Is there not corruption in cities and counties in the US, such as Chicago, New York, the rural South, New Orleans?
Perhaps the answer is similar to the question, "Why does America (USA) a superpower, have entire regions which are known for their abject poverty, such as Appalachia, rural Georgia, Mississippi, the slums of New York, Detroit, Chicago, and Los Angeles?"
Mexico has a society which has its select wealthy, a comparitively small number, a small middle class, and many poor. Yet you will find that, unlike the United States, Mexico has more intermarriage of European and indigenous, hence a large mestizo interracial mix.
Perhaps Mexicans are not so profit motivated as the United States, which has been very influenced by the White Protestant work ethic. Perhaps the person who asked the question is ignoring the fact that in every country there are poor.
The educated Mexicans I know care much more for using the language correctly and with grace, unlike the one who posted this question, with the incorrect apostrophe in the possessive "its." Ah! could it be a question of priorities? Maybe Americans tend to be more materialistic, and Mexicans tend to be more spiritual and place importance on things like art, dance, high culture.
It is a socialist society with a corrupt government. Take a close look at the Mexican Government and you will begin to think that our government won the bible!!
When the people of Mexico STOP running away into the USA and start fighting for their country one way or the other,, then and only then they could chance their country path.
As long as the cash cow exist they will never correct this problem. Americans want them for cheep labor and jobs the southern blacks no longer do due to being better educated and the amount of drugs the American people and government want and need. The Mexican government has been lying to its people for hundreds of years, this is typical of the Mexican government, We are broke go to America they will feed your sorryass.
In Mexico, so we are told, money will buy anything, and everything. Money will buy the police, the military, and government. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and the poor growup learning, that if you don't have money, if you can you take what you need. We can not change, nor can the rest of the world change Mexico, that change has got to come from within.
They haven't organized a proper revolution
Mexico will never overcome poverty, they have the Americans supporting their country, that is why the Mexican govt encourages their citizens to come here illegally. if it was not for America there would be no Mexico.
Curious why you ask this about MEXICO and not the US....but that is a whole nother question isn't it.
OH but it ties into my answer......WE (the superpower) haven't conquered it.....so why would we want another country to one up us.
How long will it take for US to confront our problems...how long will it then take to correct them?
Well those answers would probably come a little quicker when people STOP focusing ELSEWHERE and settle on solving US!
mexico dont care as long they have free bees in US so poverty moving to US....crush our welfare.
The citizens are too chicken to kill off their druglord oppressors. They should have asked Bush to be liberated, but instead they approve their corrupt government's request for open borders so that their corruption can flow throughout N. America.
Because the government is very corrupt. The Mexican government does not care about their people, they only care about money. If any of you anti's want to take out your anger on anyone, take it out on the Mexican goevernment.
CORRUPTION and not only within the country........
I think that if/when the USA manages to get control of the southern border and make a huge dent in the number of employers of illegals and start enforcing all of our immigration laws, etc., it may force Mexico to actually start working on their problems if their poor and uneducated were no longer able to enter the US illegally to work and feed off the freebies there. That is the main thing that I think will cause any change in Mexico. The problem of poverty, though, also exists in the USA and we haven't managed to alleviate our problem, either, although our poorest are probably not as poor as the typical poor of Mexico.
